The Assistant Swim Team Coach will provide leadership, coaching and motivation for participants on the youth swim teams.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Coaches participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines and conducts practice drills as created by the Head Coach and/or Aquatics Director.

2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents. Encourages parental involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

3. Engage in positive behaviors that make members feel welcome, connected and confident in their choice to be a part of the Stingrays Swim Team.

4. Maintains records as required – attendance reports, progress reports, etc.

5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

6. Be able to coach in the water and/or from the pool deck as necessary depending on skill or level. Give feedback and corrections for each swimmer throughout entire practice and maintain a safe environment at all times.

7. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

8. Sets up and puts away team equipment. Keeps equipment organized during practice time and reports damaged equipment to the Aquatics Director.

Qualifications and Skills

1. USA Swimming Certifications for Levels I, II, and III

2. Swim Coaches Safety Certification

3. YMCA Competitive Swim Level 1 & 2 Certifications

4. Possess knowledge of swimming and safety skills in addition to coaching techniques.

5. Currently certified in or currently working towards the following:

  • BLS for Health Care Providers CPR
  • American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR
  • ASHI CPR for the Professional
  • NSA or ARC Standard First Aid
  • Lifeguarding Certification
