Classification: Full-time, Seasonal, Non Benefit Eligible

Reports to: Operations Director

Supervises: Aquatics Staff (Lifeguards, Beach Counselors)


Job Summary:

The Aquatics Director position is a working hourly position responsible enforcing compliance with all safety regulations among staff and patrons, working to eliminate potential hazards. Responsible for scheduling lessons, programs and events at the aquatics facilities. Train and supervise aquatics staff to uphold BHYC standards of service.

Job Duties:

  • Greet and acknowledge members and guests
  • Adheres to the BHYC 5 Star Service Promise
  • Determine safety risks at regular checks throughout shift
  • Works directly with Programs and Activities Director to schedule all aquatic programming for the BHYC to include classes, water sports, lap swimming, JR Programming swim activities, and other aquatic programs as developed and assigned.
  • Works with BHYC Staff to ensure optimum pool and beach usage by coordinating with P&A Supervisors and in keeping with BHYC needs.
  • Survey pool and beach area at all times when members and guests are present
  • Perform water rescues as necessary
  • Assists with hiring, training, and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors and all other beach & pool staff; directly supervises lifeguards, instructors, and other aquatic staff.
  • Conducts training of staff in water safety, first aid, and CPR ensures that all certifications of staff is maintained. Ensures high program standards are followed; provides regular in-service training to staff as needed.
  • Development of lifeguard deck rotational system for monitoring the pools and beach and all aquatic operations.
  • Assist with cleaning of the beach and pool areas, including refreshing bathrooms, cleaning up trash, and other duties as assigned
  • Communicate with other department members and supervisors/managers on any emergencies/safety risks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • 1-2 years experience in lifeguard field or related areas required
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Teacher Training Certificate required
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate required
  • AED Training Certificate required

Working Conditions:

Work will generally be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor temperatures can range from 50F to 90F during summer months, and there will be exposure to loud noises and sustained elements. Working schedule is generally 40 hours per week, with some holidays and weekends and travel required. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. as required. General standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling movements are required. Extensive swimming is required.
