Job Description

Summary Statement

The Hinkley Swim Pond Director will assist in the oversight of Hinkley Swim Pond in conjunction with the Director of Parks and Recreation; will have supervisory responsibility for lifeguard staff; responsible for operating the pond area, maintaining the dock system and overall upkeep of the Hinkley Park area; and will enforce the rules and regulations of Hinkley Swim Pond.


Supervision Received and Exercised: Will receive general direction, guidance and supervision from the Director of Parks and Recreation. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of the lifeguards, WSI and other pond staff.


Essential Functions

Essential Function Statements: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Parks and Recreation Commission, is responsible for the safety of the pond patrons and for the supervision of the staff.
  2. Create, organize, implement, evaluate and provide supervision for the entire aquatics program.
  3. Interview, hire, train and evaluate all aquatics staff including pre-season training. Done in conjunction with Director of Parks and Recreation.
  4. Facilitate regular staff meetings to disseminate information and convey concerns to the office.
  5. Prevent accidents by enforcing the Hinkley Pond rules and regulations.
  6. Assigns, maintains and oversees employee’s work schedule and daily tasks. Ensures adequate coverage of the swim area by the lifeguards.
  7. Trained in CPR/BLS and able to effectively deal with a crisis situation.
  8. Evaluates and supervises the general care and cleaning of Hinkley Swim Pond and the surrounding park area as well as the maintenance and minor repair of equipment. Reports major repairs or incidents to the Director of Parks and Recreation immediately.
  9. Ensures the staff is properly attired in Park and Recreation issued uniform.
  10. The Director of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to direct the employee to other duties, at other parks and recreation facilities, programs and activities as necessary throughout the duration of employment.
