The Lifeguard and Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructors (WSI) positions vary in number of hours worked per week. Work schedule may include weekends and holidays.Essential Duties and Responsiblities
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Under general supervision, accomplishes specialized work in protecting life, preventing accidents, enforcing safety regulations, providing instructions, and assisting in the operation of the public swimming pool. Supervises swimming activities in and around pools to insure that policies, rules, and regulations are observed and enforced, and that no safety hazards are created; warns swimmers of improper activities or danger of drowning; administers first aid in the event of injury; administers artificial respiration if required; assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment;and performs other related work as required. Lifeguard/WSI also instructs classes in various levels of swimming.
Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Lifeguard:
General knowledge of equipment operations relating to swimming pools; knowledge of the means of lifesaving and of artificial respiration, knowledge of first aid and its application. Ability to direct the activities and work of others; meet and deal tactfully with the public; and demonstrate swimming proficiency. Lifeguard/WSI will also provide detailed lesson plans on a daily basis.
