Reports Directly to:     Clubhouse Manager


Peer Group:                 Pool Manager, Sous Chefs, 1st Golf Assistant, Assistant Golf Professionals, and Assistant Superintendents.


Supervises:                 Assistant Swim Coach(es), Dive Coach(es) and supporting staff


Classification:             Seasonal Full-Time, Hourly


Job Summary:

Oversees the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the HVCC Swim Team and Dive Team. Plans, organizes, implements and runs the swim program in its entirety for the Season / Summer.   The Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for planning, organizing and running the swim/dive teams in conjunction with other programming.  Coordinate with the Pool Management Team in enforcing pool rules, and maintaining records and reports. Ensures that all appropriate water, health and safety standards are maintained.



Job Responsibilities:


  • Supervises the swimmers during practices, meets and any other swim periods as needed.
  • Be on deck before swimmers begin practice, to greet swimmers and parents.
  • Conduct self in a professional, friendly, energetic, helpful, courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • Oversees and coordinates the administration of the facility, to include scheduling of facility operations and contract management.
  • Communicate effectively with the Food and Beverage team, Pool Manager, Coaches and Members about daily practice procedures, swim meets, emergencies, and information regarding swimmers and swim team well-being.
  • Works with the assistant coaches on time management, practice structure, award distribution procedures, record keeping for swimmers, and overall aptitude for coaching.
  • Attends and participates in coaches’ meetings.
  • Records swimmers’ meet results.
  • Coordinates swim meet volunteers for home swim meets
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Performs the job in compliance with District policies, procedures, work rules, and the employee handbook.
  • Reports unusual maintenance problems or irregularities to the Pool Manager or Building Technicians.
  • Attends Meetings or other to keep in line with Utah Swim regulations.
  • Assists the Pool Manager in the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
  • Plans, organizes and runs the Swim and Dive teams including meets, schedules, uniform orders, equipment set-up and take-down, etc.
  • Develops, runs and maintains aquatic programs and promotions, including Master Program.
  • Develops protocol and follows procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Assists IF necessary, supervising the life guard and other personnel.
  • Orders required supplies and equipment for the Pool area as approved.
  • Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
  • Represents the organization at all swim/dive meets, and if necessary, at various community and/or business meetings and league meetings
  • Performs all miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient in aquatics, swimming programming and have knowledge of pool facilities.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Required for the job:

  • Current Lifeguard Training (LGT)
  • First Aid & Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)


Highly Recommended:

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatics Facilities Operator (AFO)



Physical Demands:

During the season the intensity of this job is elevated and higher than normal levels of endurance may be required.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and be on their feet for extended periods of time.  It is necessary to use hands to perform tasks associated with handling equipment.  Talking and hearing are critical.   The employee is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.; and on occasion lift and/or move up to 75lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
