CVST Assistant Swim Coach Job Description

Job Summary: Provide leadership, instruction and motivation for assistant coaches and swim team participants, attend various swim meets, team functions during the year and is also responsible for managing all other aspects of the program.


Essential Functions: 

  1. Assist Head coach.
  2. create thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc.;
  3. Lead structured practices in & afternoons at different times of year.
  4. Record all work-outs and track daily attendance;
  5. Assist head coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meets and team performance as well as interaction with parents;
  6. Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc.;
  7. Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment;
  8. Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for swim team participants;
  9. Perform other duties related to being a swim coach as deemed necessary by the Head Coach.

  1. 2+ years experience as a competitive swimmer;
  2. 2+ years swim coaching/teaching experience preferred;
  3. Must be Certified Swim Lesson Instructor of able to obtain certification.
  4. Must be Certified USA Swimming Coach or able to obtain certification;
  5. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with Swim America standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics and be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents;
  6. Enthusiastic, dynamic presence with good communication skill;
  7. At least 18 years of age.

 Physical Demands:  Ability to swim and demonstrate stroke techniques. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to lift and move equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

 This is a part-time position that includes swim practices, plus time for creating workouts, handling administrative details, attendance at swim meets is also included.
