General Summary:

The Germantown Gators Swim Team (GST) is a year-round USA Swimming competitive swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities.  As one of the oldest USA swim clubs in the Mid-South, GST prides itself on creating a positive environment and enriching experience for all members of the club with the goal to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to elite-level competitor. We are seeking a Lead Age Group Coach to oversee all aspects of coaching assigned age group(s) in the water as well as dryland. The overall objective of the position is to assist in the guiding and growing of a USA swimming program that produces the highest attainable levels of competitive excellence in individual and team performance, while fostering a positive environment that fulfills GST goals and vision. It is expected that the Lead Age Group Coach will foster positive relationships, mentor as appropriate, and communicate well with the Program Director, swim team members, swim team parents, and the Board of Directors. The Lead Age Group Coach must assist in developing the skills and talents of the team members while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and encouraging personal development and excellence. The Lead Age Group Coach will be expected to work in partnership with pool management (GAC), Southeastern Swimming and local associations and further develop the team’s position as a leading program in the Mid-South.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Lead Age Group Coach for the team’s developmental program. 
  • Assist in the development and execution of  the team’s training group structure and team policies.
  • Day-to-day operating functions include (but not limited to):
    • Support efforts to recruit novice swimmers and retain existing swimmers.
    • Attend regular staff meetings.
    • Assist in planning team practice schedule and communicating it to parents.
    • Develop dryland routine and dietary suggestions per age group.
    • Assist swimmers to develop training and meet goals appropriate to swim level.
    • Evaluate training plans and goals for swimmer development.
    • Enforce Team and LSC Policy and Procedures.
  • Exercise financial responsibilities including:
    • Operate within budget.
    • Review and gain Program Director’s approval for any required changes to budget or additional purchases.
  • Assist in ensuring there is adequate representation of GST at meets and social outings.
  • Act as a role model for swimmers
  • Assist Program Director in any additional responsibilities
