Oversees the development and operations of aquatics programs, and/or other programs. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatics programs.


  1. Assists in supervision of program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  2. Assists in recruitment, hiring, training, developing schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Assists the director in reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Runs monthly staff in-services.
  3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  4. Creates, schedules, leads, and instructs swim classes, private swim lessons, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  5. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings and in-services.
  6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  7. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events, including volunteer opportunities.
  8. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely, professional manner.
  9. Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  10. Lifeguard and teach swim lessons as needed.
  11. Assists in oversight of on-site and off-site aquatics facilities (Chickami pool and CFAD Waterfront).
  12. Ensure cleanliness of pool areas daily, hosing deck, brushing down walls, cleaning staff office, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems appropriately.


  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator.
  3. Minimum age of 21.
  4. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Training, YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  5. Preferred Certifications: Lifeguard Instructor and Angelfish
  6. Completion or working toward completion of Team Leader Certification
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
