Job Description

THE POSITION

The Aquatic Center is used for recreational swimming, play, lap swimming, therapeutic exercise, and other special programs throughout the year. Lifeguards are employed to supervise the aquatic area while facilities are in use, thus ensuring everyone's safety. Lifeguards monitor the water chemistry hourly to ensure a safe environment in which to enjoy water exercise. Acts as a substitute water exercise instructor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Arrives on time for shifts, 15 minutes prior to class and in swim suit. 
  2. Prevents, reports, and documents any and all accidents. 
  3. Curtails any misuse of the facility or inappropriate actions. 
  4. Is knowledgeable of and enforces all pool rules. 
  5. Checks that all participants have signed in and are accounted for. 
  6. Must maintain proper ratio of patrons to lifeguards, which is 20:1.
  7. Checks and maintains proper water chemistry hourly. Tests and records the temperature readings frequently throughout the day. Reports any malfunctioning equipment immediately to Aquatic Supervisor.
  8. Clears and secures pool at closing. 
  9. Checks safety equipment to see that it is in its proper place and is in good working order daily. 
  10. Keeps pool area locked when not in use and after normal operating hours. 
  11. Adjusts fans and heaters for the patrons' comfort. 
  12. Cleans dressing rooms and supplies restrooms with paper goods and soap. 
  13. Cleans the pool, spas, and outer areas as scheduled.
  14. Must attend weekly inservices and successfully meet all physical requirements per State requirements.
  15. Performs all other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

NOTE:  Interested applicants mus apply through the Tarrant County job board and you must fill out the work history and education sections of application to show you have years of experience/education as required by hiring department or be disqualified.

Must have high school diploma or GED.  

Must be at least 18 years of age. 

One year of experience as a lifeguard is preferred.  

Experience teaching water exercise and swimming is also preferred. 

Current certification in life guarding, standard first aid, AED, and CPR is required.  

Must have demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to perform water rescue techniques. 

Knowledge of safety procedures acquired through certification and on-the-job training. 

Basic knowledge of water chemistry.  

Effective communication skills with fellow guards and supervisors, and good rapport with customers.  

Must have knowledge of Resource Connection Aquatic Center policies and procedures.

If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudication in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to walk, swim, bend, squat, jump, lift, and perform CPR/AED.  Working conditions are within an indoor aquatics center.
