JOB SUMMARY

 

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the successful operation of the Aquatics Department. He/she hires, trains, manages, and oversees the aquatics staff to ensure members receive the highest level of customer service possible.  The Director’s work Schedule will be floating with evenings and weekend hours with a degree of flexibility.  There will be outlined expected hours at the club approved by the ED.  Hours needed to accomplish certain tasks and goals of the position often go above and beyond the outline expected hours.  These hours are not in lieu of regular work schedule.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Enforce and develops all department policies, rules, and regulations
  • Ensure successful operation of both indoor Aquatic Center and Outdoor Water Park
  • Manages and motivates the team (including: hiring, firing, performance management, and recognition duties)
  • Responsible for the revenue growth of the fee based programs and the development of new programs
  • Ensure implementation of all safety programs, maintenance and cleaning procedures through daily checklist and inspection of staff duties as assigned
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct himself or herself at all times in accordance with the corporate standards of business conduct found in the Employee Manual
  • Trains new employees and provides ongoing training for all staff to insure the implementation department policies and procedure including the Emergency Action Plan in the event of an accident
  • Coordinates the Aquatic department schedule for all staffing, classes, and events and make sure they are posted to the website on a timely basis prior to the start of the new month
  • Work with Group Ex Coordinator to insure high quality water fitness classes
  • Be available for on call situation when there is a no show in shifts for department staff
  • Establishes, monitors and analyzes the department budget
  • To oversee and develop programming of the department for fee and non-fee based classes/programs to maximize the use of the department for revenue generation and member retention
  • Provides necessary equipment for all department activities
  • Participates in the rotating MOD schedule as outlined by the ED
  • Monthly submission of reports as required by ED
  • Performs a facility walk through on a daily basis to ensure department is in good working order and appearance and all maintenance issues are addressed.
  • Ensure the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies by following the “Gold Standard” of the aquatic center as outlined by Red Cross
  • Maintain and follow the guidelines for Swim America to facilitate the Silverlake Learn to Swim Program
  • Communicates with parents on the progress of the children in swim lessons and stroke schools
  • Conducts monthly in-services for all areas.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

                                                                           

  • Thorough knowledge and application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Must have aquatics knowledge with a competitive swimming background preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, management and leadership skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • An understanding of health club operations
  • Proficient knowledge of the MS Office Programs and the CSI Management Software

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Experience managing aquatics programs
  • Experience in a health club is preferred
  • College degree preferred
  • ARC, CPR, First Aid, and AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications (must be obtained within 60 days of hire)
  • Obtain a Red Cross LGI Certification with-in 90 days of Hire
  • Obtain a Swim America Site Supervisor Certification with-in 90 days of hire
