Job Description

Position Summary:  


The Aquatics Facility Manager manages all Maintenance and Mechanical functions of the Natatorium, as well as various administrative functions for the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium, coordinating with programming from AA Physical Education, AA Athletics, Charger Aquatics, and Think Academy. In addition, the Aquatics Facility Manager oversees and manages the Aquatics programming for Think Summer. 

Essential Functions:   

  • Program Liaison
    • Red Cross, AA Physical Education, AA Swim & Dive, Charger Aquatics, and Think Summer
    • Coordinates facility use with AA PE department, AA Athletics 
    • Coordinates Facility Maintenance with Physical Plant and Director of Competitive Swimming
  • Natatorium Maintenance and Mechanical Operations
    • Oversees and handles the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, mechanical, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
    • Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
    • Responsible for all day-to-day operations of the facility’s maintenance and mechanical needs.
    • Coordinate Bi-Annual Maintenance shutdowns for the Facility and necessary repairs and replacements (two weeks early August, one week in late March)
    • Develop and implement Maintenance Plan for Natatorium 
    • Coordinate Natatorium needs for CAQ and Academy hosted meets and events with Director of Competitive Swimming 
  • Think Academy Summer Responsibilities
    • Hires, Trains, and Supervises Pool staff
    • Coordinates facility use for all Summer Session aquatics users:
      • Children’s Workshop
      • Day Camps
      • High Noon Camps
      • Teen Camp
      • Variety Sports Camp 
    • Manages Natatorium daily operations for Think Academy Summer
  • Works with Physical Plant Director and Director of Competitive Swimming to ensure appropriate maintenance of pool facility
  • Provides administrative and customer-service support as needed
  • Responds to and resolves all Think Summer facility issues 
  • Responds to Think Summer aquatics questions and concerns (seasonal > 10-15 daily call/email volume from parents and personnel)
    • Swim lessons 
    • Diving Lessons
  • Assists Think Summer parents, students, faculty, staff, and student workers with needs as they arise 
  • Assists Think Academy team with Think Summer database set up and tasks associated with summer registration and reporting (November-May)
  • Assists Think Academy Employee Relations Specialist with Human Resources administration (e.g., employee forms, handbooks, recruitment, and meetings and orientations) as needed for faculty and student employees (September-May)
  • Assists Think Academy team with sales, marketing, employee recruitment, and customer-acquisition events, including Albuquerque Academy Admission Open House, Summer Honors, Student Employee recruitment, New Faculty Orientation, opening meetings for employees, outside marketing events, Open House, and Family Night. (October-July)
  • Assists Think Academy team with Risk Management, Crisis Management, and Facilities-use tasks. (January-May)
  • Assists Think Academy team with LookBook production (September-February)
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned (January-December)
  • Charger Aquatics 
    • Assist with various administrative tasks with CAQ as needed


  • Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field preferred
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification and CPR/First Aid certification preferred
  • Certified Pool Operator certification required

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and understand new software applications
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software primarily, Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of database management software for CAQ and SS data
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable accounting software (Senior Systems ideally)
  • Familiarity with website development software 
  • Familiarity with online commercial banking software for credit card reconciliation

  • Experience

  • 3-5 years supervisory experience is required
  • Prior experience managing Pool Maintenance and Mechanical is required
  • Prior experience managing an aquatics or similar athletic program is desired
  • Prior experience in accounting, payroll, and account reconciliation is desired

Working Environment:

  • The majority of the work is performed indoors in an office setting
  • Work hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Weekend and evening work including, but not limited to, CAQ hosted meets, AA Swim meets, and Summer Session events.
