Title:
Aquatics Director

Effective Date:  Position is available for immediate start

Supervisor(s): Facility Director in conjunction with CEO

 

General Purpose:

Oversees the day-to-day operation, maintenance(cleanliness), and administration of the Selby Aquatics Facility. Oversees the hiring, training, testing, and management of certification of the staff. Develops and implements various aquatic programs. Ensures that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. Additionally, assist with programs where needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, scheduling, certification, of the aquatics staff (non-coaching); supervises the day-to-day activities of staff and contracted services (i.e. custodial employees).
  2. Oversees and coordinates the administration of the facility, to include scheduling of facility operations and contract management.
  3. Oversees the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
  4. Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state, and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
  5. Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of aquatics programs for students, faculty, staff, and/or members of the public.
  6. Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
  7. Work within a budget to grow the programming and revenue of Sarasota Shark Inc.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by CEO and/or General Manager.

Certification and Licenses Expectations:

These certifications and licenses should already be acquired or be able to be acquired within the first 90 days.

  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator
  • USA Swimming Coach certified
  • LGT (Lifeguard Training)
  • LGTI (Lifeguard Training Instructor)
  • CPRfPR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer)
  • Swim Coaches Safety Training and First Aid Instructor.
  • Current Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

    • Hy-Tek Swimming Software
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and certify lifeguards and others.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility.
  • Skills in program planning and development.
  • Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 100 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
