Job Description

Do you love swimming and aquatics? Come join PENN Aquatics staff! PENN or Pennsylvania Aquatics is a young up-and-coming year-round program in Lower Bucks County. We are located 30 minutes from Northeast Philadelphia and just minutes away from Trenton, New Jersey. PENN has multiple pools and locations and is one of the only USA teams in the Lower Bucks County area that gets to train in a 50 Meter LC pool every day in the summer. PENN is looking for swim lesson instructors, assistant coaches, and age group coaches. All report directly to the head swimming coach. As a member of the PENN Aquatics coaching staff, you are fully responsible for compliance with all USA Swimming policies and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare practices on a weekly basis, based on phase of training and swimmers’ needs/ability
  • Maintain a focus on technique, skill development and athlete development
  • Work closely with the aquatics staff and other coaches to promote the club as a whole
  • Participate in weekend swim meets as required
  • Attend all coach’s meetings (approximately 4-5 per year)
  • Help determine swimmers’ events for meet entries
  • Coordinate training methodologies, drills, and practice group goals with head coach
  • Recruitment, retention, and athletic development plans for new athletes
  • Open communication with parents to ensure education and communication on all aspects of long-term athletic development
  • Develop roles and responsibilities of parents, swimmers, and coaches as well as individual athletic plans, maintain good membership standing with USA Swimming and Middle Atlantic
  • Assist head coach with overflow of administrative tasks
  • Teach supplemental private lessons to swim team members as needed
  • Participate in all staff meetings and contribute to overall organizational success

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field is preferred with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academic program of study
  • USA Swimming Coaches Certification or ability to obtain coaches certification within first 14 days of hire
  • Knowledgeable of stroke and skill techniques
  • Knowledgeable of season/workout planning and dryland training/technique
  • Prior coaching experience with athletes of all ages
  • ASCA certification (preferred)
  • Able to exhibit strong effective teaching/communication skills
  • Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid certification (preferred)
  • Progressive experience as a coach in the sport
  • Familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations (USA swimming, LBSL)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational communications
  • An understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges in the environment of private higher education
  • Have, or be willing to obtain, a driver’s license

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures/weather
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend work required, out of town travel required

PENN head coach is committed to provide a fun safe environment for ALL swimmers who want to swim. We offer year-round swim lessons and a swim team. We have recently added a Red Cross lifeguarding program and we are looking into starting our own Master’s program for the 2022-2023 season.
