Age Group Coach

SMAC (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) located in Waynesboro and Crozet; VA is seeking a Lead Age Group Coach.  This position has the flexibility to be a part time or full-time position based on the candidate.  SMAC has been operating since 1958 and has produced swimmers qualifying for the highest-level meets (Olympic Trials, Senior and Junior Nationals and Y Nationals).   

SMAC was formerly a YMCA Team but is now a Coach owned Team with approximately 130 swimmers.  The majority of our swimmers are 12 and under and that is why we have a need for an Age Group Coach.  

We are looking for a coach with a minimum of 3 years of USA swimming coaching experience with the following demonstrated skills: 

• A passion for swimming and the ability to communicate with swimmers, coaches, and parents.
• Knowledge and ability to implement a technique-based swimming program in a fun and positive manner. 

Specific job duties include:

• Proficient use of Team Unify, (manage entries and communications related to meets).
• Assist families in the selection of individual meet events and provide timely meet information before, during and after the meet.
• Ability to recruit and retain new swimmers.
• Lead the Teams use of social media to recruit new swimmers. 
• Meet with the Head Coach weekly to outline practice sessions and to discuss any opportunities or issues for the Team.  These meetings will ensure that the Coaches are in alignment with the direction of the Team.  
• Update parents and swimmers of any changes to practice in a timely manner. 

• Provide meet and season results for all of the swimmers, highlighting team and individual achievements and successes. 

• Head Coach of a small Summer League in June and July. 
• Additional coaching opportunities could include Coaching at one of the local High Schools.  
• All USA Swimming certifications should be current.    

The position will be full time, but we have flexibility for a part time Coach, if that is preferred.   

Pay:  30-40,000 based on experience plus Insurance coverage. If part time $16-22 per hour

Education: College Degree preferred, but not required.
