Job Description

The Bear Creek Swim and Tennis Club in Lakewood, CO seeks an Assistant Summer Club Swim Coach for its 2023 summer season. Candidates must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be committed to helping our swim team members improve their swimming while creating a fun experience. Coaches must be available from May 15-July 31. The BCST team is approximately 100 swimmers and participates in the South Jeffco Swim League (SJSL).  Compensation is contingent upon experience as salary range for summer season is $1,500-$3,000. Practices are held in the mornings M-F and meets are mainly held on Saturdays.

Assistant Coach Responsibilities and Duties

Assistant coach  is responsible for motivating children ages 5-18 years of age to participate in swim practice and compete on the BCST Swim Team.

·       Assist the Head Swim Coach in instructing swimmers on rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport

·       Organize and direct individual and group practices as directed by the Head Swim Coach.

·       Assesses swimmer’s skills, monitors athletes during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the performance of swimmers.

·       Lead and inspire respective assigned age group during practices and swim meets.

·       Maintain regular and timely attendance.

·       Know and follow all South Jeffco Swim League (SJSL) policies and procedures.

·       Assist in ensuring all practice changes, pool closures, upcoming activities, and meets are communicated to swimmers and their guardians before each workout.

·       Foster a FUN, EXCITING & WELCOMING swim team environment 

·       Familiar with the facility Emergency Action Plans and respond appropriately to all emergencies.

·       Enforce facility and team rules.

·       Fill in for Head Swim Coach when needed.

·       Share ideas and collaborate with fellow coaches, parents, and swimmers.

·       Attend awards banquets and movie night

·       Provide first aid and CPR as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for all BCST Swim Staff:

·       Ability to maintain physical and mental fitness level consistent with readiness to respond to emergency situations.

·       Ability to act quickly, decisively, and calmly in an emergency.

·       Ability to perform rescue actions and administer CPR and First Aid as needed.

·       Basic computer skills.

·       Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

·       The work environment is outdoors

·       The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a person to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

·       Must be able to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a noisy aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility.

·       Will require long periods of sitting or standing in a hot, humid and noisy environment.

·       Majority of time is on a pool deck with some administrative tasks.

·       Must be able to sit, stand, walk, grab, pull and push objects in or out of water, squat down, stoop, kneel, crouch and jump.

·       Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

·       Hours will vary depending on the pool schedule and include mornings and evenings.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       CPR and first aid knowledge and training.

·       Pass a background check.

·       One to three years of club, high school or college swim swimming and/or coaching experience.

·       Basic computer skills for administrative duties.
