This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Senior Aquatic Director, the Aquatic Coordinator will be responsible for the day to day pool deck operations while maintaining safe swimming conditions. The Aquatic Coordinator will prepare the Lifeguard schedule, train and supervise the staff to ensure member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.  

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and manage the Lifeguard schedule for optimal pool supervision and safety
  • Work with Director to recruit, hire, train and direct staff and volunteers as assigned; review and evaluate staff performance to develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals in accordance with Branch and Association guidelines
  • Ensure all operations meet consistent safety standards. Monitor operations to adhere to state, local and YMCA health and safety policies
  • Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of the pool. Maintain accurate records of chemical levels and facility maintenance
  • Supervise lifeguards and swim instructors
  • Ensure aquatic staff certifications are valid and keep accurate records of such
  • Offer and facilitate staff trainings, including life guarding, swim instructions, First Aid and CPR trainings
  • Coordinate pool schedule with branch Directors to ensure quality and safe programming
  • Manage first aid supplies including the monthly testing of emergency equipment including the AED, Oxygen tanks, etc.
  • Cover Lifeguard shifts or instruct group or private swim lessons as needed
  • Birthday party coordination and supervision of programs
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
  • Work with Senior Aquatic Director to monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives
  • Participate in Association Quality and Business Development Teams
  • Participate in trainings or workshops which will enhance professional growth
  • Participate in and support the Annual Support Campaign and play a leadership role in the campaign at the YMCA
  • Maintain professional and courteous demeanor and positive attitude when interacting with staff, members or parents
  • As a member of the Key staff, share responsibility for the administration of the success for the overall Branch performance and help maintain a positive image for the YMCA

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • Possess current Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Certifications.
  • Minimum 3 years of commensurate experience in a supervisory/management position.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management; ability to understand financial reports, including budgetary guidelines and expenditures.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and independent judgement and making all decisions within the guidelines of the YMCA.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of individuals from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have flexible work schedule.
