Assistant Coach/Swim Instructor

DESCRIPTION: Bolt Aquatics, with pool space in Vero Beach and Sebastian, FL, is seeking an Assistant Coach/Swim Instructor who will work in harmony with the Head Coach and other staff to fulfill the mission of Bolt Aquatics. Bolt Aquatics is an established and growing swim program that includes a progressive swim school starting with non-swimmers and continuing through a competitive AAU swim team where swimmers often compete in USA Swimming competitions.  

Bolt Aquatics provides supportive and challenging swim instruction through a progression of swim school classes, focusing on technique, intended to lead to our AAU registered swim team. Bolts engage in a sport that demands determination, commitment, and teamwork. Our coaches promote and assist swimmers in the pursuit of physical fitness, proper conditioning, and a healthy lifestyle.

We are looking for a Coach who is willing to develop young swimmers, grow our swim school and competitive team, produce new program offerings, and is truly passionate about the sport and teaching children of all ages. The position is responsible for teaching beginner swimmers utilizing a progression of swim school classes; conducting multiple lessons and swim team practices; assisting the Head Coach with expanding the swim program, class offerings and swim team; and instructing athletes with proper swimming techniques, the primary focus of the program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Work with the Head Coach to instruct athletes in proper techniques, skills, rules and regulations to advance novice and developmental swimmers.

·       Direct and lead group instruction using our progressive class structure for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

·       Assess swimmers’ skills, plan strategies for improvement, and keep the Head Coach informed of the athletic performance of swimmers.

·       Assist coaching staff with instructing athletes during practices and competitions.

·       Attend specified competitions, training, special events or team socials as directed by the Head Coach.

·       Lead and instruct masters swimmer (adults 18+) workouts as necessary.

·       Follow standard procedures in the event of an injury or emergency.

·       Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards coaching staff, swimmers, officials, lifeguards, parents, and spectators.

·       Communicate program information effectively and in a timely manner to swimmers and their families.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

REQUIREMENTS:

·       Competitive swimming experience at AAU, USA Swimming, high school and/or college level.

·       At least 1 year of working with, coaching, teaching, or mentoring youth at the age-group swimming level.

·       Excellent communication and relational skills.

·       Self-motivated and self-directed with a teachable spirit.

·       Proficient with pool safety practices, procedures, rules, and regulations.

CERTIFICATIONS:

If lacking, must be willing to obtain within 60 days of being hired.

COMPENSATION:

Hourly rate will be based on coaching experience. Bonuses and raises will be based on performance reviews.
