Job Description

The Family YMCA of Southeast Mississippi is looking for a dynamic and talented coach to lead our Y Hub Fins Swim Team.  Our head coach supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Our ideal candidate is a current technique-focused Assistant Coach, who is ready to move up and lead a team in a Head Coach role.  Our YHF Swim Team is a low stress environment where you will have the ability and flexibility to grow as a coach, surrounded by a supportive environment.  The YHFs are a facility managed team, and are currently developing a parent board whose role is supportive in nature and not supervisory to the Head Coach.

Our Head Swim Coach provides high level leadership to our YHF swim team.  A large focus will be placed on recruitment and retention, as well as establishing a community presence with regards to the swim team.  In addition to the traditional duties of a Head Swim Coach, this position will serve in a supporting role in the operations, administration, and supervision of the aquatics department.

  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related area of expertise such as exercise science, kinesiology, sport coaching, or sport management.
  3. Experience as a competitive swimmer in a club, high school, or college setting.
  4. Experience teaching and leading others in an instructional swimming environment, preferably with experience as an assistant coach in a year-round competitive swimming program registered with USA Swimming, Y-USA Swimming, or an NCAA associated program.
  5. Ability to possess and maintain all requirements for USA Swimming coaching credentials, preferably possessing current coaching credentials through USA Swimming.
  6. Possess the ability to efficiently and independently work with database and digital marketing through software and web-based platforms.
  7. Possess excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  8. Possess a thorough understanding of all competitive strokes, starts, and turns.

Salary Range:  $27,000 - $32,000 annually DOE.
