Job Title: Head Coach
Status: Full-Time, Salaried Position
Location: Durango, Colorado
The Durango Swim Club (DSC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, salaried Head Coach for its USA Swimming Club Team. DSC is a USA Swim Club and operates as a 501c3 non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.
The Durango Swim Club (DSC) is a competitive team that trains over 80 swimmers year-round from the developmental level to the college bound athlete and offers 4 different training levels. DSC operates out of an indoor, city managed, 8 lane 25 yard pool and has swimmers compete at local, state, sectional, and regional levels. The core mission of DSC is to foster self-awareness in all stages of the training process and encourage athletes to take ownership of their preparation and performance. Durango, Colorado is located six hours southwest of Denver and three hours north of Albuquerque, NM.
The Head Coach is supported by two to three dedicated assistant coaches and the overall goal is to lead the entire DSC team to continued competitive excellence. A parent led volunteer Board of Directors provides support to the Head Coach and Team in a variety of different functions. The Head Coach reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Desired Candidate Professional Skills and Abilities
Required:
Enthusiasm and passion for the development of young athletes, at all skill levels
Demonstrated success developing and implementing a comprehensive age group swim team program, with expertise using a range of training techniques for all groups and abilities.
Understanding of the balance of training for distance and sprint, taper, and dry-land, for all age groups.
Experience with implementing dryland training programs for swimmers.
Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communications skills to work effectively with staff, swimmers, parents, board members, vendors, and the community.
Strong organizational and administrative skills. Familiarity with Team Unify, Meet Manager and Colorado Timing Systems.
Leadership to inspire the success of coaching staff and collaboration among the team
Vision orientated to continue to improve our team, our presence in the community and the state of Colorado.
Member in good standing with USA Swimming current on all background checks and certifications.
SafeSport compliant.
Preferred:
ASCA Level 3 or higher
Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience in a competitive swim environment
Basic financial skill set (P&L statements, budget process)
Bachelor’s degree
Compensation
Salary compensation is commensurate with experience at $35,000-$40,000. Approximately 20 hours on deck, 10 hours administrative duties with additional hours for meets and meet travel. Reimbursement is provided for continued education, certifications, and meet expenses.
