Stingrays Assistant Swim Coach
PT/FT: Part Time
Schedule: Varies by group assignment but falls within M-Th 4:30-7:30pm, F 4:45-5:45pm, Sa 8:30am-4pm; June and July (and winter break) additional hours M-F 8:30-10:30am

Job Description: Generally, Assistant swim coaches provide support to the Head Coach and athletes on the Tucson J Stingrays Swim Team. Assistant coaches may be asked to write and lead in-water practices for groups of 10-30 athletes. Assistant coaches may coach on their own, or in conjunction with another coach on deck.
The Swim Team Assistant Coach will also assist in transporting athletes on campus to and from JCare (after-school program) or Camp J (summer camp program) for swim practice. During winter break and summer camp, this will involve morning and afternoon hours. Transporting athletes involves picking them up from other programming at the J, and walking with them across the building. Athletes will be dropped off at the doors to the youth locker rooms to change, and met by the staff member on the other side of the locker rooms (on the pool deck). At the end of practices, the staff member will follow the same transport procedure in reverse to get the athlete back to other programming. Other key components of the transportation duty include managing a list of athletes to be transported and communicating with parents.
Additionally, this position provides support to the Head Coach in registration, policy, and other housekeeping matters.
Requirements:
Current USA Swimming Coaching Certifications in good standing, or the ability to complete USA Swimming Coaching Certification prior to employment
Current American Red Cross (or USA Swimming recognized equivalent) CPR, First Aid, Safety Training for Swim Coaches; Concussion Protocol Training, Background Check, USADA Coaches Advantage, Athlete Protection Training, USA Swimming Coaching courses, or the ability to complete these items prior to employment
Preferred:
Knowledgeable in swim instruction and coaching, with an eye for teaching and correcting technique in all four strokes, starts, turns, and finishes
Ability to work with young swimmers of varying abilities
Ability to balance enthusiasm and patience, with a focus on improving athlete technique while making the sport fun
Ability to exhibit Team values of hard work, the pursuit of excellence, and mutual respect for athletes, coaching staff, and competitors, performance, sportsmanship, and athlete protection
Ability and willingness to travel to local and travel swim meets (predominantly within Arizona)
Ability to communicate clearly with athletes, parents, other coaching staff, and other patrons at the Tucson JCC
One year competitive swim coaching experience, OR two years swim instruction experience, OR three years competitive swimming experience within the last five years
Ability to motivate others toward pursuing team goals and building the team
Highly collaborative and committed to working with other coaching staff to better the team and individual athletes
Committed to fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and equity
Able to ensure the health and safety of all patrons on and around the pool
Pay Rate: starting at $14/hour
The Tucson J Stingrays Swim Team is a competitive swim team that serves the Tucson community. Although we operate out the Tucson JCC, we accept all athletes on our team.
