The Hanford Swim Club is soliciting applications for a part-time Head Swim Coach.

Our club is a small, year round competitive swim team that is currently seeking a high quality professional head coach for all ages and abilities. Our current Head Coach has been with our club for over 17 years, and is ready to enjoy a life of retirement. Currently there are 20-30 swimmers, depending on the time of year, ranging in age from 6-15. We are part of a consortium of 6 local area swim clubs, which together are known as the Tule Nation Tritons (TNT). We believe in focusing on a positive and team building environment, while motivating our swimmers to improve their skills through training and hard work. The coach will work with our parents to create a unified team to help each athlete attain their goals in swimming. We are looking for someone who is passionate about swimming and excited to serve as a mentor, educator and role model. On a regular basis our training occurs at the Old Hanford YMCA swimming pool in Hanford, California. The pool is a small four lane, 25 yard indoor pool. The non-profit club is governed by a board of directors consisting of team parents. The coach serves at the pleasure of the board.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organization and Supervision of practice sessions (including swimmers and assistant coaches)
  • Provide training and instruction of skills and techniques appropriate for the age and level of each swimmer
  • Setting team goals for each session 
  • Provide a nurturing athletic environment for the advancement of each individual          
  • Attend scheduled meets and help run the annual hosted meet                     
  • Work with swimmers and parents to determine meet entries for all club-sanctioned meet
  • Establish and Maintain communication between coach and athlete and coach and parent regarding swim training and competition                                                                    
  • Develop and Mentor assistant coaches                                                                      
  • Interact with league officials and coaches, as necessary                                                       
  • Assist with recruiting Assistant Coaches, as necessary

 The ideal candidate has:

  • 1-2+ years’ experience coaching a competitive swim team                                                   
  • Possesses the knowledge of technical and training aspects of competitive swimming      
  • Possesses an impeccable understanding of swim stroke mechanics
  • Ability to communicate with swimmers, families, and staff in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment               
  • Experience coaching in competitive swimming                                                         
  • Ability to scale practice for both recreational swimmers and competitive swimmers


  • Ability to pass a USA Swimming background check and complete the USA Swimming head coach requirements prior to starting
  • A valid Drivers License and the ability to provide your own transportation to and from practices and swim meets preferred
