Huntsville Swim Association (HSA), a USA Swimming Bronze Medal Club with over 40 years of excellence in swimming in Huntsville, Alabama, is looking to fill the position of Age Group Coach.
Huntsville Swim Association boasts a swimmer roster of over 550 swimmers, is perennially ranked inside the top 100 in USA Swimming’s Virtual Club Championships, and swims out of one of the best facilities in the country. The Huntsville Aquatics Center consists of two 8 lane x 50 meter pools, with seating capacity for around 1500 in the main competition pool.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport of swimming, a commitment to developing young swimmers, and a strong desire to grow and learn professionally. While previous coaching experience is not required, a strong knowledge of the sport of swimming is a must. At least ASCA Level 2 coaches are preferred.
The successful candidate will have earned at least a bachelor’s degree and have demonstrated administrative skills. The position requires proficiency with Windows software, and knowledge of Team Unify systems and Hy-Tek systems is highly preferred.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens. Candidates must have current certifications or be willing to achieve certifications in Athlete Protection Training, CPR, First Aid, USADA training, and Coaches Safety Training within 30 days.
Candidates must pass a criminal background check from USA Swimming.
Duties will include coaching and overseeing our top 9-10 age group swimmers, supervising assistant coaches for this group, assisting with at least one other age group, supporting meets, maintaining office hours, communicating with parents, participating in staff projects as assigned by the head coach, and planning and supporting team activities.
The position is open as early as August 1st. Salary is negotiable, depending on experience. The position does come with full health, dental, and vision insurance. It also comes with a 3% match on any 403b retirement contributions. The option to coach high school and summer league teams for additional pay also exists, as well as the ability to teach learn-to-swim lessons. HSA was started in 1969 as the Rocket City Aquatic Club. In 1974, the club's name was changed to the Huntsville Swim Association. Since 1969, HSA has produced Olympians and countless athletes that have competed on the international, national, and collegiate levels. Former and current HSA swimmers also hold numerous relay and individual LSC records. Along with individual accomplishments, HSA has won the LSC championship numerous times and finished within the top 3 at National Level Meets. For forty years, HSA has proven itself over and over again as the top program in Northern Alabama, the State of Alabama, and the South.
HSA is a non-profit, parent-owned organization governed by a Board of Directors (BOD). The board of directors represents the association and works in conjunction with the coaching staff to maintain the high quality of swimming that is offered by HSA. The club employs a head coach who is responsible for managing day-to-day operations and leading the swim program and coaching staff. Member involvement is an integral part of the association. Parents and members support the association through a variety of committees and organized volunteer activities.
HSA is a member of both USA Swimming and the Southeastern Swimming LSC. The team participates in USA Swimming meets ranging in ability level from novice to international, and offers meets locally, regionally, and nationally.
