The Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds (HKC) is seeking an experience swim instructor to join our aquatics team as an Assistant Aquatics Director for Instructional Swim (AADIS) to join the Aquatics team at HKC Rockland County.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistant Aquatics Director for Instructional Swim, under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, is responsible for ensuring a high-quality swim instruction program is provided to the camps. Working with staff of 90 - 100 spread across three pool complexes (seven pools in total), the Assistant Aquatics Director SI is responsible for ensuring that our aquatics staff are able to teach swim instruction effectively to 1400 campers daily utilizing the American Red Cross based learn-to-swim program.

  • Camp Dates: June 10 - August 16
  • Pay: $8000
  • Hours: Mon - Fri 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • FREE on-site housing is available

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The AADIS also works in collaboration with the Assistant Aquatics Director for Operations & Lifeguarding (AADOL) supporting the Aquatics Director in insuring the safety of the pool deck at all times, with proper supervision and adhering to DOH regulations.

With a primary focus on the success of the learn-to-swim program, this person will need to be a seasoned swim instructor, with experience training others to teach swim and working with children, typically ages 5 – 12. Key aspects of the position include ensuring staff are teaching the mechanics properly, that instructors are tailoring their teaching to the campers ages, and working with struggling instructors in building their skills and confidence.

As a supervisor, this person will be expected to help foster a rewarding environment for the aquatics staff that inspires team morale, and encourages staff to produce quality work in their commitment to HKC's mission of enhancing the camp experience for the day camps who call HKC home.

EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

In addition to having experience teaching American Red Cross learn-to-swim to children of all different ages and abilities, candidates should be WSI certified (preferably with a WSI trainer certification), have 3+ years management experience, and be an experienced lifeguard (preferably with Lifeguard instructor certification).
