Buenaventura Swim Club (BSC) is seeking a salaried Assistant Head Coach to join our staff.  The ideal candidate will be an organized, enthusiastic, and hard-working individual who seeks to better our swimmers.  We are seeking an individual who will primarily lead our 11-14 age groups – both our non-competitive Middle School Development group and our extremely competitive Junior group.  This individual will report directly to the Head Coach and will also have administrative duties.

Buenaventura Swim Club is a competitive swim club located in beautiful Ventura, California.  Established in 1962, we are a coach-led, Board governed swim team.  Having been named a USA Swimming Bronze and Silver Medal club multiple times, we seek to further the development of our swimmers to achieve their goals at whatever level they operate – from entry level swimmers to Olympic Trials.  BSC trains primarily at the state-of-the-art Ventura Aquatic Center with its 25y x 50m Olympic sized competition pool and 25m x 12.5m recreational pool.  

Essential Duties:

  • Create, attend, and coach swim team practices – primarily 3:30 – 7:00pm (note: times may vary).

  • Attend and coach swim meets (approximately 1 per month).

  • Work with Head Coach to assist with the supervision, training, and development of assistant coaches and instructors.

  • Work with Head Coach to create seasonal training plans.

  • Assist Head Coach in completing various administrative tasks to ensure smooth and stable club operations.

  • Maintains a valid USA membership at all times and be current on all certifications.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures of USA Swimming, SoCal Swimming (our LSC), and Buenaventura Swim Club (including but not limited to child abuse prevention, medical, disciplinary, and emergency situations).

  • Act at all times with integrity and maintain a positive relationship with athletes, parents, caregivers, lifeguards, and fellow staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Member in good standing of USA Swimming and current on all certifications.

  • Thorough knowledge of stroke technique and athlete development.

  • Must be able to provide stroke analysis, write workouts, and create a training plan for swimmers with various levels of experience/ abilities.

  • Able to create a positive atmosphere while still demanding excellence of competitive swimmers.

  • Able to communicate efficiently and maintain positive relationships with swimmers of different ages and experiences.

  • Able to communicate efficiently and maintain positive relationships with parents.


  • Salary: commensurate with experience

  • Paid Vacation: 2 weeks per year

  • Paid Sick leave: one sick day per month, accruing up to a maximum of twelve days per year.

  • BSC will pay for USA Swimming registration and reimburse any fees associated with certification.

  • BSC will reimburse any travel fees associated with approved swim meets/ team functions.

  • BSC has a rotating day off for staff after swim meets and works to maintain a strong work/life balance for its employees.
