Job Description

The Head Age Group Coach will help grow the base of our program by working alongside the Head
Coach developing our swimmers’ skills and athleticism while continuing to take Virginia Gators to new levels of success. The coach will lead and/or assist with approximately twelve to sixteen age group practices a week in addition to about 8-10 away swim meets per year. Our swim coaches are a big part of what makes the Virginia Gators a high-level swim program and providing quality and engaging instruction is one the most important responsibilities of our coaches.


Responsibilities:
 Provide consistent, quality and engaging swim instruction to age group swimmers.
 Assist groups through seasonal planning-developing/improving an athlete progression model
and creating quantifiable goals for our swimmers through executing fun, age appropriate, and
challenging practices
 Administrative duties at the discretion of the Head Coach, included but not limited to meet
planning, travel planning, parent communications, meet entry submission, and billing.
 Attend all assigned age group practices and be available to attend scheduled swim meets per
Head Coach request
 Foster a positive, encouraging, and challenging atmosphere in which all swimmers, regardless of
ability, may improve their skills
 Maintain a positive and effective working environment while collaborating with other coaches,
board members, and parents. This includes regular communications to all parties about the age
group program.
 Work with the Head Coach to recruit new swimmers and schedule open house events
 Treat all swimmers with equal care and concern
 Always represent the Virginia Gators in a positive and professional manner and in accordance
with USA Swimming Code of Ethics and Conduct policies
Qualifications:
 Coaching membership in good standing with USA Swimming must be maintained
 Thorough knowledge of competitive swimming, stroke mechanics, and training methods
 Successful at instructing, managing, and connecting with children.
 Enthusiastic, team-oriented, positive role model, effective communicator, and leader
 Strong communication and organization skills

 Ability to create a positive, inclusive environment where all swimmers are inspired to improve
and succeed
 Always seeking to improve and grow in their role as an assistant coach
 Passionate about the sport of swimming
