Job Description

Bettendorf Aquatics Club (BETT) is looking to fill multiple positions as quickly as possible; Assistant Swim Coaches, Learn-To-Swim Coordinator, and Swim Lesson Instructors.  Our competitive swim team is experiencing higher than normal growth and we are introducing an expanded Learn-to-Swim program for children of all ages and abilities.

We are seeking positive, energetic and passionate individuals that have a passion for the sport of swimming  to join Bettendorf Aquatics Club (BETT).  This role requires strong communication skills, a patient demeanor, and a dedication to promoting water safety and confidence in our swimmers.

Assistant Coach

The Assistant Coach will work with our competitive age group program on a part-time basis. The assistant coach will run practices & provide technique instruction.   Assist swimmers in developing and improving their technical and physical skills as a competitive swimmer. Evaluate, monitor, and provide quality feedback to athletes to improve technique and performance. Assist with a training group to ensure the teaching of proper stroke technique and implementation of the lead coach’s training plan. Stay updated with the latest coaching techniques and industry trends to continually enhance coaching skills and knowledge.  Attend scheduled swim meets (approximately 1-2 weekends per month), practices, meetings, and team functions as required.

Learn-To-Swim Coordinator

The Learn-to-Swim Coordinator is responsible for the efficient operation of the Bettendorf Aquatics Club swim lesson program, including but not limited to scheduling and supervising swim lesson instructors, scheduling of swim lessons, filling in for instructors when absent, maintaining accurate attendance records, and communicating with parents.

Swim Lesson Instructor

The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality swim instruction to children of all ages and skill levels with the primary focus on water safety.  Ultimately, an exceptional swim instructor should be able to communicate effectively with students and ensure that all water safety rules are learned and followed.  The swim instructor’s responsibilities include evaluating each student’s performance during swim sessions and providing feedback, completing attendance, progress, and accident reports, and ensuring that all swimming aids and equipment are in good working order. You should also be able to assist students with special needs to socialize with other students.


  • Teaching swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities. 

  • Assisting more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities. 

  • Assessing the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly. 

  • Monitoring students to prevent accidents and injuries. 

  • Implementing ground rules for each swim session. 

  • Planning swimming lessons that take into account students’ abilities and progressive development. 

  • Identifying incorrect swimming techniques and correcting students accordingly. 


  • High school diploma or GED. 

  • Proven experience working as a swim instructor or lifeguard. 

  • CPR, First Aid, and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) certifications.

  • USA Swimming Registration (club will assist)

  • Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules. 

  • Strong swimming abilities. 

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills. 

  • Effective communication skills. 

  • Passionate and enthusiastic.
