Job Description

The School of Yaya’s Fishes is currently searching for a part-time SAFE Swim Assistant. We’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to have fun and work with children of all ages while hanging out by a pool. We teach a survival swim curriculum out of Jonesboro, AR, area.

You will obtain a full SAFE Swim Certification and experience working with children of all backgrounds in a sports-related environment.

*** THE DESCRIPTION:

The School of Yaya’s Fishes is searching for a part-time SAFE Swim Assistant to help conduct lessons. Your responsibilities would include “catching” and directing children during training in addition to documenting attendance, monitoring progress, and maintaining the pool area. You should also be able to help students with special needs to socialize with other students.
Other duties may be assigned as needed. The right candidate will demonstrate patience and enthusiasm and be able to motivate students to accomplish their swimming goals.

Ultimately, an exceptional swim assitant should communicate effectively with other staff, parents, and students and ensure that all water safety rules are followed.

*** THE PAY AND PERKS:

Full-time position available; pay is ($12-$15/hour, depending on experience). No weekend hours. No holidays.

*** REQUIREMENTS:

- Swim team experience is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills
- Effective communication skills
- Patient, passionate, and enthusiastic
- Must have reliable transportation to and from our location
- Must be at least 16 years of age

My name is Terri “Yaya” Mommsen. I am a registered nurse, certified by Pediaswim to teach babies and toddlers to swim and float. I am also Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified, and I have spent many years teaching children to swim.

My training assistant is my daughter, Lauren Mommsen, who is also a registered ER nurse with ACLS and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications.

We at The School of Yaya’s Fishes are committed to the safety of your precious little ones and helping your child develop independence, confidence, fitness, and discipline in the pool. We strive to ensure a lifetime of safety and enjoyment in and around the water.
