Title: Swim Team Coach
Reports to: Head Swim Coach
Position Status: Part Time
Payroll Status: Hourly
JOB SUMMARY: The Swim Team Coach is responsible for leading practices in their given group. They are responsible for the application of practice plans written by the Head and Assistant Head Coaches. The position requires instructing athletes in swimming techniques, strategies, and rules, and ensuring a safe and productive training environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Implement training plans and practice sessions written for the swim team, while adapting as necessary for the athletes present.
- Provide insightful instruction on swimming techniques, rules, and safety regulations.
- Monitor and assess swimmers’ skills, providing feedback to help them improve.
- Help organize and direct team practices, ensuring each session is effective and productive.
- Maintain regular and timely attendance for all scheduled practices and competitions.
- Attend swim meets as necessary or requested by the Head and/or Assistant Head Coach
- Be able to commit to full swim sessions (Sept-Mar, Apr-May, June-July)
- Communicate effectively with swimmers in their group about progress, upcoming events, and any changes to the schedule.
- Provide first aid and CPR as required.
- Be familiar with the facility's Emergency Action Plans and respond appropriately to all emergencies.
- Foster a welcoming and encouraging environment to promote swimmer retention and team cohesion
- Enforce facility and team rules to ensure a safe and respectful training environment.
- Assist the Head Swim Coach in planning and executing team events and competitions.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required to maintain certifications and improve coaching skills.
- Represent the swim team professionally and uphold its standards and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- *Preferred* Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (in house training available).
- *Preferred* USA Swimming Coaching Certification or equivalent (in house training available)
- Must pass a background check.
- 1-3 years of swim coaching or competitive swimming experience preferred.
- At least a high school diploma.
