Job Description

About US: We are a coach owned YMCA affiliated team out of the North Shore of Massachusetts. The Danvers YMCA Dolfins work with both the Danvers Community YMCA swim lesson program and the local Swimm with Timm program, to offer swimmers a better swim team experience. The swim lesson program curriculum is design to give swimmers a better understanding of proper swimming technique. Swimmers come to the program with a strong foundation of skills and the program is designed to develop swimmers through a technique centered program into strong swimmers at every level of development on through Seniors. 

About YOU: We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, professional coach with strong experience working with and developing Age Group swimmers. Experience working with Junior and Senior level swimmers is preferred. This person will work with the Head Coach to develop the stream of AG swimmers, coming from the swim lesson program associated with the team, into a strong Junior and Senior program as well. This person will eventually lead the Junior/Senior program ideally. This is mainly a coaching position with minimal administrative work outside of pool time. Experience in creating short and long-term plans for development is a major plus. Must have or be willing to obtain USA Swimming and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certifications.

Summary

The Assistant Head Coach works with the Head Coach in the development and strategy of the swim team program. Maintains constant supervision of students at all times to ensure safety. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with students and builds cooperative relationships with parents and caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all students in the program.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains constant supervision of students, identifies students who need assistance,and supports students as necessary to ensure a positive learning environment
  • Helps to create new approaches to serve the needs of program participants
  • Adheres to policies and procedures in organizational guidelines, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency incidents
  • Maintains positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and other staff, handling customer conflict and complaints, as necessary
  • Designs and leads classes for CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Certification
  • Attends and coaches swim team practices and meets

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and 3+ years swim team coaching experience
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Certificate
  • Must have or be able to obtain USA Swimming Coach Membership
  • Reliable transportation to travel between locations is a must
  • Ability to recognize students who may need assistance
  • Ability to recognize and remedy hazardous and dangerous situations
  • Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm
  • 3+ years teaching a competitive team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience on a competitive swim team
  • 3+ years of experience as a Age group coaching
  • Experience as Head Age Group/Junior Coach

Work Environment

The Assistant Head Coach must remain indoors at a facility pool with water and air temperatures of 75 degrees or higher at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemicals and fumes.

Physical Demands

Walks, runs, sits, stands, bends, lifts, swims, and moves continually during working hours; is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. Must remain alert and able to recognize distress signals.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and hours will vary; evenings and weekends are required.
