The Assistant Swim Coach plays a vital role in assisting the head coach in developing and implementing effective training programs for swimmers of various skill levels. This role involves assisting with coaching sessions, providing technical guidance, fostering a positive and motivating training environment, and contributing to the overall success of the swim team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively coach various age group levels, setting a strong, positive, enthusiastic, and highly energetic tone for all age groups, as needed.
- Attend practices and swim meets as scheduled by head coaches; assist/guide coaches with practice; give instruction and feedback on training and technique.
- Provide input to the head coaches to develop and implement year-round and seasonal training plans for your training group.
- Coach/manage a training group to ensure the teaching of proper stroke technique and implementation of the training plan.
- Inspire, encourage, and motivate each swimmer to realize their full potential in the sport of swimming.
- Teach life skills such as self-discipline, self-confidence, good sportsmanship, goal setting, and working to achieve goals.
- Assist with assigning meet events/entries to swimmers and ensure swimmers are entered in meets.
- Foster a welcoming environment for new athletes with the goal of retaining swimmers.
- Other associated duties as assigned.
Experience/Requirements:
- USA-Swimming certifications including SafeSport, Concussion Protocol Training, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Water
- Safety Instructor, and coaching membership in good standing.
- Passionate about aquatics, and the teaching and development of athletes.
- Maintain professional relationships with coaches, athletes, and their families.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills, with the capacity to act rational and calmly in all situations.
- Extensive knowledge of stroke mechanics, strategies, and techniques for competitive swimming.
- Experience and/or degree associated with developmentally appropriate teaching and instructional techniques.
- Current certifications from the Red Cross or other equivalent agency: Lifeguard / First Aid / Adult & Pediatric CPR and AED.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
