JOB TITLE:
Swim Lesson Coordinator, Jim & Heather Gills Branch
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Lesson Coordinator provides leadership and supports operations to the Aquatics Department which includes swim lesson instructors. Aids in ensuring the safety of all participants in or around the YMCA pool.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
3. Assists with developing and implementing consistent and frequent in-service training for swim lesson staff.
4. Assists with swimming lessons via helping print rosters, communicating with parents, keeping track of materials and replenishing supplies. Assisting instructors with any needs.
5. Ensure all facility policies, rules, regulations and health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to, ensuring the well-being of all participants, guests, members and staff.
6. Serves as Deck supervisor during busy hours of camp season, swim lessons. Helping manage a high volume of lifeguards, coordinating rotations, and performing secondary duties.
7. Handles member concerns or situations that arise in absence of the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Coordinator.
8.Assists with recruiting, training, developing, scheduling, and directing Aquatics staff as needed. Onboarding of new swim lesson instructors
9. Ensure all staff are current with required certifications. Maintain compliance with required documentation of pool operation. Have a complete understanding of the operations of the Aquatic Department.
10. Assists with reviews and evaluation of staff performance. Help develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
11. Assists with establishing new program activities and expanding programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
12. Perform swim lesson instruction and direction of aquatics programs as scheduled, and provide substitution coverage as needed.
13. Assists with compilation of program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in aquatic programs.
14. Plans and attends special events such as Healthy Kids' Day, Family Fun Nights, and other various celebrations.
15. Attends required abuse risk management training, follows mandated abuse reporting requirements and adheres to job specific risk management responsibilities.
16. Maintains constant supervision of the pool during assigned shifts.
17. Directs all pool maintenance concerns immediately.
18. Will be trained in and adhere to all policies and procedures including but not limited to privacy, confidentiality and security policies and procedures within the department.
19. Attends required abuse risk management training, follows mandated abuse reporting requirements and adheres to job specific risk management responsibilities.
20. All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.High School diploma or GED and some college coursework preferred.
2.Must be 18+ years of age
3.Minimum 1-year experience in recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience
4.Must be able to professionally explain and enforce rules and policies to members, participants and staff.
5.Knowledge of swim lesson programming.
6.Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules.
7.Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration.
