This premier facility features five cutting-edge pools, including an indoor lap pool, splash pad, three climate-controlled outdoor pools, and a year-round off-site pool. The Aquatics Director will play a pivotal role in creating highly engaging and innovative aquatics programming tailored to a diverse community. This full-time position not only leads strategic programming but also manages staffing, budgeting, and facility maintenance to ensure an exceptional experience for all users.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Strategic Leadership & Program Innovation:
- Drive Growth: Lead the Aquatics Department with visionary strategies, curating a comprehensive portfolio of programs, including private, semi-private, and group swim lessons for all ages, developmental and competitive swim teams, aquatics safety programs, and an adult master swim program.
- Event Creation: Develop and implement an annual aquatics event calendar designed to attract both members and the wider community, generating excitement and boosting public engagement.
- Hands-On Engagement: Deliver top-tier service through direct program instruction and coaching. Step into lifeguard duties as needed, demonstrating an all-encompassing leadership approach.
- Talent Management: Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing aquatics team. Lead continuous professional development initiatives, including staff in-services and training sessions.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee the budget for the aquatics department, optimizing resources and driving profitability while maintaining service excellence.
- Industry Expertise: Stay at the forefront of aquatics trends, ensuring the JCC remains a leader in aquatic innovation by benchmarking against outside programs and industry standards.
- Community Building: Develop strong relationships with members, fostering direct communication and maximizing participation in aquatics programs.
- Operational Excellence: Manage the seamless operation and maintenance of all pools, including the off-site Merfish Teen Center pool.
- Collaborative Support: Partner with the JCC Children and Family department to deliver high-impact camp programming, including group swim lessons and recreational swim activities.
- Cross-Departmental Synergy: Collaborate with Fitness and other departments to create synergistic, cross-functional programs, maximizing the aquatics complex’s utility beyond traditional aquatics uses.
- Revenue Generation: Cultivate relationships with external organizations to generate rental income from the aquatics facility, creating a sustainable revenue stream.
II. Dynamic Communication & Marketing:
- Brand Amplification: Develop and execute marketing strategies that promote aquatics programs to both members and the general public through all JCC communication channels.
- Digital Engagement: Provide regular, engaging updates to the JCC website, social media platforms, and E-blasts, ensuring programs and schedules are widely publicized and accessible.
- Team Communication: Maintain consistent communication with aquatics staff, keeping them informed about programs and utilizing them as direct member engagement tools.
- Member Experience Optimization: Ensure desk staff are fully knowledgeable about program schedules, events, and any changes, delivering a seamless experience to all members.
III. Organizational Representation & Culture:
- Brand Champion: Act as a key ambassador for the JCC and the aquatics department, representing both with enthusiasm and professionalism.
- Positive Leadership: Cultivate a culture of positivity, warmth, and exceptional service, enhancing the overall member experience.
- Collaborative Leadership: Participate in department head and supervisor meetings, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the JCC.
- Professional Image: Adhere to JCC brand standards, wearing appropriate attire during working hours to maintain a consistent, professional image.
- Event Leadership: Take an active role in all major aquatics and JCC events, elevating the facility's visibility and ensuring smooth execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in aquatics administration and programming.
- Certifications: Water Safety Instructor (WSI), American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor, American Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor, Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
