The 661 Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling infrastructure that promotes positive habits, creating and providing access to recreational facilities and activities, and improving community engagement, with a strong emphasis on supporting underserved and underprivileged youth and communities. We offer financial assistance and grants to charitable organizations and individuals, and develop programs that foster education, health, and community development.

The 661 Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head Coach to build a new swim club from the ground up in Bakersfield, CA. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Aquatics Director to develop a vibrant team and enrich the local swim community.

Utilizing a brand new, state-of-the-art 50-meter pool, your mission is to foster a love for swimming that encourages athletes to return time and again. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on our community's aquatic landscape.

What you get to do: 

  • Lead athlete development and oversee all swimming and dryland programs.
  • Ensure competitive opportunities, including organizing hosted meets.
  • Serve as the primary coach for one or more training groups.
  • Maintain regular communication with athletes, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee training of coaching staff.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the swim team.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Director on policies and procedures.

What you bring to the role: 

  • Proven track record of building successful swim programs as a Head Coach or Age Group Coach, fostering a positive competitive environment.
  • Ability to balance competitive and developmental swim programs as all initiatives are established.
  • Strong leadership skills and a passion for growing a swim team in Central California.

Coaching Experience:

  • 5+ years of coaching experience with a focus on technique, race strategy, and age-appropriate training for both developmental and elite swimmers.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess swimmer performance and create tailored training sessions.
  • Current USA Swimming coach member in good standing, with relevant certifications.
  • Competitive swimming experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Experience collaborating with an Aquatics Director to develop diverse swim programs is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 per year, based on experience.
  • Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Reimbursement for meet expenses, travel, professional dues, and educational classes with prior approval.
