Bear Creek Swim Team is seeking a passionate and skilled Head Swim Coach to lead our summer swim team of approximately 80 swimmers with a coaching staff of 2-3 assistants. The Head Coach will foster a fun, safe, and competitive environment, while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and continuous improvement serving Bear Creek Swim and Tennis Club and its members. This role involves assessing, training, and developing swimmers of all ages and skill levels (ages 5-18), in collaboration with assistant coaches. The season will run from Memorial Day through the end of July, including morning weekday practices, one to two weekly meets, a mid-season invitational, and two championship meets. This position requires strong communication with various stakeholders including team members, parents, assistant coaches, swim team leadership and club leadership to ensure team goals are achieved.
Coaching Supervision:
Assign coaching staff to swimmer age groups and ensure proper coverage at all practices and meets.
Recruit and mentor assistant coaches, providing guidance and feedback to develop their coaching skills.
Ensure consistent and positive technique training, regularly evaluating swimmers’ progress and offering individual feedback.
Collaborate with assistant coaches to design engaging and varied practice plans that cater to swimmers’ developmental needs.
Swim Meet Preparation and Execution:
Prepare for each meet by setting up race lineups, ensuring balanced participation across events, and communicating with the opposing team coach as needed.
Attend and supervise all swim meets, including league championships. Ensure smooth pool setup for home meets (lane lines, blocks, flags, etc.).
Participate in software training for meet setup, entries, and race lineup management, ensuring accurate and timely input of meet entries.
Celebrate team and individual achievements and recognize accomplishments such as record-breaking performances or personal bests, fostering a culture of improvement.
Swimmer Development and Performance Feedback:
Provide real-time, constructive feedback to swimmers during meets, addressing disqualifications or infractions to reinforce understanding of stroke rules.
Issue progress "report cards" to swimmers, documenting skills, goals, and improvements throughout the season.
Conduct regular Stroke & Turn Clinics, teaching proper techniques and helping swimmers gain confidence in competitive strokes.
Inspire swimmers to set individual and team goals and build excitement for upcoming meets.
Team Leadership and Community Engagement:
Emphasize team spirit, inclusivity, and fun, with activities such as end-of-practice games to maintain engagement.
Encourage swimmer buy-in by ensuring all ages and skill levels have a voice within the team.
Attend team outings, social events, and the end-of-season awards banquet, contributing to a positive and supportive community atmosphere.
Assist in the selection of awards for the banquet, recognizing swimmers’ achievements and contributions.
Administrative and Communication Duties:
Maintain regular and consistent communication with the General Manager, swim team leadership committee, swimmers, and parents regarding practice schedules, meet logistics, and team events.
Track and report coach attendance, adhering to South Jeffco Swim League guidelines and maintaining familiarity and compliance with all league rules and ethics codes.
Attend league meetings, collaborate with team leadership, and serve as a positive representative for Bear Creek Swim and Tennis Club.
Collaborate with BCSTC President and BCSTC Board Swim Team Liaison on planning, administration, execution, and evaluation of summer swim league.
Demonstrated experience in swim coaching, preferably with a background in competitive swimming.
Proven technical coaching proficiency and knowledge of swim strokes, rules, and race strategies.
Strong ability to motivate and communicate effectively with swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
Leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor assistant coaches.
CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Commitment to the entire summer swim season, including early mornings, evenings, and weekend meets.
Professionalism and Team Spirit: Foster a respectful, inclusive, and motivating environment for all swimmers, families, and volunteers.
Adaptability: Adjust coaching techniques to meet the unique needs of each swimmer and age group.
