Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach, the Swim Team Coach will provide leadership, instruction and motivation to swim team participants in a safe and positive environment. This role assists in carrying out the development plans for age-group and senior-level athletes and the promotion of both competitive swimming and the Y. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Facilitates and oversees assigned training group practices under the direction of Head Coach and Associate Head Coach.

2.    Promotes Swim Team and the Y with existing and potential swim team members.

3.    Responsible for the overall safety of all swimmers. Able to respond to safety and emergency situations in an effective, efficient manner.

4.    Establishes and maintains good communication; responds to swimmer, team families and community inquiries and comments in a professional, timely manner.

5.    Assists in the organization of and attends all scheduled practices and swim meets.

6.    Completes other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Bachelor's degree preferred. 

2.    Competitive swimming experience and a history of swim coaching.

3.    Must be a minimum age of 18.

4.    Availability to work evenings and weekends.

5.    Certification in lifeguarding, first aid and CPR prior to employment.

6.    Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with USA Swimming standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics.

7.    Must currently hold or be willing to obtain all required ISI and USA Swimming Coach requirements/certifications.

8.    Must be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents.

9.    Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment. 

10.  Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·       Ability to pass lifeguard water test.

·       Must be able to remain alert.

·       Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.

·       Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.

·       Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.

·       Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.

·       Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.

·       Ability to work in a chlorine environment.

·       Ability to work in high humidity.

·       Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees.
