We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and organized Head Age Group Coach to lead and develop our age group program. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate coach to impact young swimmers and guide them toward reaching their fullest potential.
Job Responsibilities:
On Deck & Coaching Duties
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all swimmers in and out of the water.
- Plan and implement dynamic training programs for age group swimmers, including dryland training, injury prevention exercises, and technique-focused water/strength training.
- Oversee practice roles, schedules, and group organization during practice and non-practice hours, typically Monday through Saturday, with specific times based on practice groups and competition schedules.
- Ensure the facility is left in excellent condition by cleaning up and securing the environment after practices and events.
- Lock up the school and facilities after practices, ensuring all equipment is stored properly and areas are secure.
- Complete swimmer entries for meets, research and recommend appropriate meets for participation, and assist with website setup and maintenance.
- Develop training strategies that align with athletes' short- and long-term goals, helping swimmers advance based on their abilities.
- Attend all scheduled swim meets and team functions.
Assistant Coach Management
- Lead, schedule, and oversee assistant and volunteer coaches, ensuring certifications, meet coverage, and payroll needs are met.
- Collaborate with other coaches to discuss group move-ups and ensure a coherent and unified team strategy.
- Coordinate practice coverage for all groups to ensure smooth operations.
Tryouts & New Member Integration
- Serve as the primary contact for new families interested in the TBAY program.
- Schedule and conduct tryouts to evaluate swimmers and place them into appropriate training groups or recommend swim lessons.
- Follow up on team registration, ensuring families are properly registered with the club and USA Swimming, and all required paperwork is completed and filed appropriately.
Swim Lesson Program Management
- Build and maintain a positive learning environment for swimmers of all levels.
- Oversee lesson scheduling, instructor availability, and rescheduling needs.
- Ensure all swim lesson dues and fees are collected.
- Manage email correspondence with families for scheduling, policies, and lesson progression.
- Update lesson information on the TBAY website and maintain accurate records of payments and lesson completion.
- Track athlete progress and facilitate transitions into active TBAY membership.
- Organize and grow the swim lesson program with certified instructors.
Communication Responsibilities
- Maintain prompt and professional communication with assistant coaches, families, and swimmers to ensure clarity and alignment on team schedules, goals, and expectations.
- Respond swiftly to emails and inquiries from team members, families, and other staff to foster strong relationships and trust within the TBAY community.
- Collaborate effectively with other coaches to coordinate team strategies, schedules, and swimmer progression.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of coaching experience in a leadership role with a USA Swimming registered team.
- Current USA Swimming Coach Certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, dryland programming, and age-group athlete development.
- Experience managing assistant coaches and overseeing team operations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Passion for youth development and fostering a healthy team culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASCA Level 3 Certification or higher.
- 5+ Years of Age Group Coaching experience
- Proven experience growing swim lesson programs and integrating athletes into competitive programs.
- Team Unify and Hytek programs
- Proficient in emailing and communication
- Track record of producing high-performing swimmers at the age group level.
