Highland Park Aquatics Club (HPAC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) year-round competitive swim team of approximately 200 members based in Highland Park, IL. We are seeking a Head Coach to provide leadership to our swimmers, families, and coaching staff.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in competitive swimming with experience coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. They will be responsible for developing and implementing training programs, organizing and attending swim meets, and providing feedback and support to our athletes. The Head Coach will also oversee Assistant Coaches to ensure that all swimmers are receiving the proper attention and guidance to reach their full potential.
In addition to coaching responsibilities, the Head Coach will play a key role in recruiting new swimmers, communicating with parents, and fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. They should be passionate about the sport of swimming and dedicated to helping each swimmer achieve their goals both in and out of the pool.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Developing and implementing a comprehensive training program and strategy focused on increasing the participation and performance of all swimmers and coaches.
2. Managing the team's day-to-day operations, ensuring that the program complies with all rules and regulations set forth by governing bodies such as USA Swimming and Illinois Swimming.
3. Overseeing and directing all practices, meets, and team events. Responsible for the overall safety of swimmers and families and meeting invitees.
4. Managing and mentoring assistant coaches.
5. Communicating effectively with swimmers, parents, and assistant coaches.
6. Managing team budget and expenses, communicating and coordinating with the Board of Directors.
7. Maintaining high swimmer renewal rates and recruitment of new swimmers.
8. Ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by governing bodies such as USA Swimming and Illinois Swimming.
9. Promoting a positive team culture and fostering a sense of camaraderie among team members.
10. Other duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● 5+ years of coaching, teaching, or similar experience in competitive swimming.
● Strong background in competitive swimming, with an understanding of relevant technique & training concepts.
● Strong organizational and communication skills with strong attention to detail; ability to prioritize multiple projects.
● Ability to be authoritative when enforcing team and/or facility rules.
● Ability to work cooperatively with swimmers, their families, and other coaches.
● Certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR, First-Aid, and AED, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.
● Current USA Swimming Coach certifications, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.
● Must be able to work a varied schedule that includes evenings, nights, and weekends.
