Job Description

Grand Ledge Area Swim Club (GLASC), located in Grand Ledge, MI is searching for a head coach and assistant and senior coaches for our new and continuously growing Swim Club! 

Our ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable, supportive, and enthusiastic about the sport.  The GLASC is comprised of approximately 80 -100 swimmers, 3-5 staff (coaches), and an amazing board of 10-12 members!  It is expected that the head coach will work with swimmers at all levels. The candidate will be equally interested in swimmers’ performance as well as character growth and development, and will actively support the growth of the team. The head coach is required to be on deck during practice times averaging 2.5 - 5 hours per day, 4-5 days per week and present at swim meets (hours vary based on the meet).  The candidate must be a USA certified coach or willing to become one. 

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Team and program instruction/development:

  • Develop swimmers at all levels according to USA Swimming guidelines and best practices, including providing goal setting sessions, resources for nutrition, and appropriate dry land programs.

  • Create a session plan for all groups as well as write and conduct workouts for swimmers of all levels.

  • Manage and develop coaching staff/instructors to ensure optimal development of both coaches/instructors and swimmers. 

  • Participate in team events such as parent meetings and social gatherings.

Administrative tasks:

  • Establish and maintain communication with swimmers and parents (within the guidelines of USA Swimming and SafeSport), as well as the board.

  • Create the team practice schedule and meet schedule with the advice and assistance of board members and staff. The practice schedule is set during the previous season and is dependent upon pool and coaching availability. The meet schedule is more flexible, but should include a minimum of 1 meet per month.

  • Assist club administrators, team accountant, and/or volunteers with regards to financial aspects of the program, including annual budget and reporting, and payroll.

  • Attend board meetings on occasion to provide reports to the Board on team numbers, team performance, staffing, and recruitment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience coaching swimmers of all ages, USA Swimming coaching experience preferred

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills; an outgoing personality is a plus

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with parents to encourage the swimmer’s development

  • Experience and/or a willingness to learn the team management software platform

  • Availability to work scheduled practice times 

  • Current USA Swimming Coaching Certifications and be in good standing with USA Swimming, or be able to attain certifications within the first year of employment

  • Pass a pre-employment screening and background check.

  • Provide 1-2 personal and/or professional references.

Salary, Benefits, and Compensation:

  • Hourly pay, certifications and renewals covered by the board, and travel expense reimbursement.
