To coach fun, effective, and safe swim practices. Work with the head coach in fostering a love for the sport and developing swimming goals. Provide a positive swimming experience including a focus on swimming technique, character development and team connection. Help kids gain skills that will help them be successful in life.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year swim coaching or swim instruction experience
understanding of swimming technique, training principles, and racing strategies
positive and kind coaching style with good communication skills
Required Qualification:
USA Swim Coach Membership (or the ability to obtain the certification)
2+ years competitive swimming experience
Primary Duties:
Have a positive, friendly and caring attitude at work.
Ensure kids are enjoying their practice, improving their technique and staying safe.
Coach practices, swim meets, and coaches meetings on a consistent and regular basis.
Arrive ready to coach and be willing to spend time interacting with participants and/or their parents.
Encourage swimmers by highlighting their successes and encourage them to participate in competitions.
Be willing to guide and mentor a kid's competence, character, confidence and connection.
Take responsibility for the operation of the swim team including recruiting and communicating with parents and swimmers with the direction of the Head Coach.
Work with the Head Coach to implement seasonal training goals.
Know and follow all club, facility and USA Swimming standards, policies, and guidelines.
Ensure the safety of swimmers at practice by following proper precautions and regulations per Killer Whale Swim Club, USA Swimming and facilities.
Physical Requirements:
Able to coach from the deck of the pool for the duration of practice.
Able to achieve and maintain required certifications: USA Swimming Coach Membership.
Able to properly demonstrate all strokes and techniques taught.
Other:
Assistant coaching is a part-time job, 6 – 10 evening hours a week and one weekend a month.
Pay is $17 an hour.
For 40 years Killer Whales has been a not-for-profit organization, committed to promoting the well-being of youth in our community through the sport of competitive swimming. The club attracts swimmers throughout Cowlitz County and trains at Dick Mealy Memorial Pool (Mark Morris High School, Longview WA) with most swim meet competition in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. KWSC has about 45 swimmers ranging from 6-18 years in age. Longview, WA is located 50 miles north of Portland, OR on I-5.
