The River Run Raptors Swim Team is seeking a head coach to lead our summer swim program consisting of approximately 110 - 150 swimmers and 4 - 8 person coaching staff. The head swim coach must have a passion for swimming, working with children and coaching, and will be responsible for creating an environment that is fun and safe while instilling the spirit of competition, continuous improvement and good sportsmanship. The head coach will lead, manage and motivate coaching staff and swimmers on the team. The head coach should assess, train, and develop each swimmer on the team, in collaboration with their coaching staff. Finally, the head coach will be responsible for timely communication of team and individual goals to the swimmers and their parents.
Our season will run from just after Memorial Day through the end of July and consists of morning weekday practices, 1 - 2 meets per week (one weekday, one Saturday) and two Championship meets. Our team consists of swimmers ranging in age from 5 - 18 and we are focused on cultivating a fun, positive, encouraging environment for our swimmers and families.
Main Responsibilities Include:
Coaching Supervision:
Determine coach assignments for swimmer age groups and ensure there is appropriate coach coverage
Ensure coaches are teaching swimmers proper technique, evaluating swimmer’s skills and giving swimmers specific feedback on a regular and ongoing basis.
Collaborate with age group coaches to develop plans for practices and communicate expectations to coaches for meets and practices.
Mentor coaching staff, and provide timely feedback
Swim Meet Preparation and Execution
Take software training to ensure understanding of meet set up.
Use designated software program to determine optimal race lineups ensuring swimmers have similar numbers of events and a variety of events.
Accurately input meet entries prior to lineup submission deadline.
Communicate with the opposing team’s coach prior to meets.
Attend and supervise all swim meets, including Classic and City.
Oversee pool set up for home meets (lane lines, blocks, flags, etc.)
Meet with Raptors President, Club GM and Club staff to clarify responsibilities and build a team atmosphere before the season.
Communication with Swimmers on Performance during/after Meets
Provide real time feedback to swimmers during meets
As soon as practical after meet (generally at the next practice), the head coach should ensure:
The team is positively mentored from prior meet, regardless of results.
Significant accomplishments are celebrated (i.e. records being broken, significant drops in time, etc), with the goal of different swimmers, regardless of skill level, are recognized throughout the season.
Swimmers understand why they were disqualified and receive specific instruction to correct infractions, with the goal of helping swimmers understand rules and requirements for each stroke.
Set a tone of excitement for the next meet.
Other Administrative Tasks:
Track and report coach attendance..
Attend any scheduled coaches meetings set forth by the Naperville Swim Conference (NSC), and familiarize yourself and coaching staff with the NSC Rules, Bylaws, and Code of Ethics.
Attend all swim team practices (5 days per week), meets and swim clinics
Effectively communicate practice schedules, changes, meets and miscellaneous team information in a timely manner
Attend team outings/parties/social events, as requested.
Determine winners for Awards Banquet and prepare positive comments.
Attend swim team meetings, as requested.
Positively Represent the River Run Raptor Swim Team:
Demonstrate positive, professional and motivational leadership.
Comply with all requirements of the Naperville Swim Conference.
Demonstrate concern, respect and appreciation for all swimmers, regardless of ability.
Create a fun, yet structured learning environment.
Emphasize the importance of team spirit and self-motivation.
Ensure the safety of swimmers at all times, quickly and efficiently respond to any emergencies.
Our Team was established in 1995 with a membership base that continues to grow every year. The Board of Directors consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and two Conference Representatives (Conference Reps are non Executive Board members) and direct all facets of the team’s operations. This governing body is responsible for enforcing the Bylaws of the Naperville Swim Conference and those of the River Run Raptors Swim Team. With help of dedicated parents in various Committees, the River Run Raptors Swim Team is a self-funded and private organization designed for the children of the River Run Community.
