The Hebrew Educational Society, a thriving multi-service, comprehensive community center located in southeast Brooklyn, provides a diverse array of programs and services within a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment that is inclusive of people of all ages and ability levels. Programs include Early Childhood, After School, Camps, Athletic and Aquatic Activities, Older Adults & People with disabilities.
Responsibilities of Swim Instructor:
Responsible for planning and teaching learn-to-swim and water safety courses
Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
Cover all material required in a level
Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress through our learn to swim report card.
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
Complete records and report cards for all students
Participate in regular in-service training sessions
Performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities of LifeGuard:
Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
Keeping the pool & pool deck clean.
Qualifications for LifeGuard:
Up to date LifeGuard/First Aid/AED/CPR certification w/ experience (preferable)
Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills
An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
Leadership and public relations skills
Able to work under pressure handling a variety of responsibilities
Available to work nights and weekends as required
Candidates should possess an ambitious, entrepreneurial, startup personality.
Qualifications for Swim Instructor:
At least 1+ years of aquatics instructor experience or highly recommended…
Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills
Leadership and public relations skills
Able to work under pressure handling a variety of responsibilities
*Able to teach all ages and all levels of swimming(pre-school - level 6)*
Able to handle a minimum of 6 kids per group class.
Certifications:
Lifeguard:
Certification in Lifeguard/First Aid/AED/CPR
Instructor:
Certification in Lifeguard/First Aid/AED/CPR + Recommendation from previous swim school.
Certification in WSI (recommended not required)
Current certification in the following is preferred:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid
American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Other certifications required by local or state laws
Monday - Friday, Sundays
Afternoon and evening shifts available
$20.00-$25.00/hour depending on your certification
