About THSC: Tualatin Hills Swim Club (THSC) is a thriving and supportive competitive swimming program committed to nurturing a passion for swimming and cultivating athletes of all ages and abilities. Our daily focus is on technique and teamwork, and our goal is building character and inspiring excellence.
Job Summary: We are in search of a dedicated and inspiring Developmental Age Group Coach to lead and guide our youngest swimmers. This role will focus on the growth and development of our 10&U swimmers while emphasizing fundamental stroke technique, water comfort, and creating a positive team environment. An ideal candidate will possess patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to effectively communicate with young athletes and their families.
Responsibilities:
● On-Deck Coaching (10&U Focus):
○ Conduct daily training sessions for the assigned 10&U age group with a strong focus on fundamental stroke technique, starts, turns, and water safety.
○ Foster a fun and engaging learning environment to instill a love for swimming.
○ Develop age-appropriate training plans that promote skill progression and advancement.
○ Offer personalized feedback and encouragement to each swimmer, ensuring a safe practice environment.
● Swimmer Development:
○ Evaluate and monitor swimmer progress, providing constructive feedback and positive reinforcement.
○ Introduce and reinforce proper technique progressions to foster a love for the sport.
● Communication & Parent Engagement:
○ Compile and distribute a weekly address to the squad, delivering updates on training, upcoming events, and swimmer achievements.
○ Maintain open and effective communication with parents and timely address any questions or concerns.
○ Clearly communicate practice and event information.
● Meet Support:
○ Attend designated meets, providing coaching and support to 10&U swimmers.
○ Assist with meet preparation, including warm-ups and race strategies, and provide feedback to athletes after each race.
● Team Collaboration:
○ Work collaboratively with other coaches and staff to ensure the overall success of the THSC program.
○ Participate in weekly staff meetings and assist with other groups as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
● Competitive swimming experience or a strong understanding of competitive swimming techniques.
● Preferably, experience coaching or working with young children (10&U).
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young athletes and their families.
● Ability to write clearly and engage with parents.
● Patient, enthusiastic, and positive coaching style.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Passion for developing young swimmers and fostering a positive team environment.
● Current USA Swimming Coach certification
Schedule:
● Part-time position with specific hours to be determined.
● Practices typically occur in the afternoons and/or evenings, with Saturday mornings and attendance at designated weekend meets.
