The Swim Coach is responsible for leading the Sharks Swim Team, ensuring a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for all swimmers. This role emphasizes excellence in coaching, swimmer development, and program operations, while delivering a high level of service that exceeds member and guest expectations. The Swim Coach will collaborate with the Recreation Manager/Club Manager to oversee all team activities, practices, and social events.

Responsibilities

Swim Team Leadership

  • Design and implement structured, developmentally appropriate practice routines and relay strategies for swim meets.
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the Sharks Swim Team, including training sessions, competitions, and team-building activities.
  • Foster a positive, motivating, and team-oriented culture among swimmers and families.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of all swimmers, members, and guests.
  • Act immediately and appropriately in emergency situations, providing necessary rescue and emergency care until medical personnel arrive.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, reporting and addressing potential hazards promptly.

Facility & Program Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pool facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks as directed by management.

Member & Guest Relations

  • Provide exceptional service and communication to members, guests, and their children.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to swimmers, promoting skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
  • Attend department meetings and ongoing training to stay updated on best practices in coaching and aquatic safety.

Qualifications

Required: Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program certification, CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in swim coaching and lifeguarding, with the ability to coach 70–150 children.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to think quickly and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships with swimmers, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and management.

Schedule & Physical Demands

  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to walk, run, swim, push, pull, and lift moderate to heavy weight.
  • Comfortable working in and around open water.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor pool deck and surrounding areas, subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to chemicals related to pool maintenance.

  • Rescue tube / rescue can
  • Lifeguard chair
  • General cleaning supplies and personal protective gear
