South Bay Aquatics (SBA) – Associate Swim Coach

Location: Chula Vista, California
Salary: Competitive-Based on coaching experience
Job Type: Part Time, (~20 hrs/week)

South Bay Aquatics (SBA) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Associate Swim Coach. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, committed to technical excellence, and enthusiastic about contributing to a positive and inclusive swim team culture. This is a salaried, Part-time position with the opportunity to grow within a well-established, community-focused program.

SBA is a year-round USA Swimming-affiliated team serving the South Bay region of San Diego County. With a history of competitive success and a mission to develop swimmers of all levels—from beginners to national-level athletes—SBA provides a supportive environment where swimmers are challenged to reach their full potential both in and out of the water.

Responsibilities:
Coaching: Emphasize the development of the “whole athlete,” including mental health, injury prevention, technical proficiency, and racing strategies.

Practice Leadership: Assist the Head Coach and collaborate with the coaching staff to plan and lead training sessions, ensuring consistency in swimmer development.

Swimmer Development: Identify individual strengths and areas for improvement and provide personalized feedback and support.

Team Culture: Foster an inclusive, positive, and team-oriented environment for athletes and their families.

Meet Preparation: Assist in organizing, attending, and coaching at swim meets, including pre-meet prep and post-race analysis.

Administrative Support: Help manage daily operations, including attendance tracking, parent communication, and roster management.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all USA Swimming safety and conduct standards and uphold a Safe Sport environment.

Communication: Maintain strong communication with swimmers, parents, coaching staff, and the SBA Board of Directors.

Qualifications:
Experience: 1–3 years of coaching experience with a USA Swimming club or comparable competitive program.

Certifications: Current or willing to obtain within 90 days—USA Swimming Coach Certification, CPR/First Aid, Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, etc.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of competitive swimming, stroke mechanics, and age-appropriate training.

Soft Skills: Excellent communicator, team player, organized, and adaptable with a growth mindset.

Technology: Comfortable with email, Google Workspace, and swim team management platforms (e.g., TeamUnify).
