We are seeking part-time experienced and dynamic coaches to assist our Twin Cities Swim Team head coach in the preparation, planning, and operation of swim team practices and competitive meets. The coaching season runs from October through April.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teach and support the mission of the YMCA.
- Assist in the development of daily workouts as assigned.
- Observe and coach participants in proper stroke techniques, based on swim level and ability.
- Attend home and away meets.
- Responsible for the safety of all participants in and about the pool areas during practices and meets.
- Consistently monitors working areas of responsibility for any violations of the code of conduct or inappropriate behaviors.
- Provides rapid and timely response to all accidents, situations, incidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly and professionally using proper techniques. Completes all Documentation in a timely manner [Incident Reports, Ouch Reports, Behavioral Reports, Mandated Reporting etc.]
- Maintain positive, professional communications and interactions with the Swim Team participants, parents’, and other coaches.
- All concerns regarding discipline, scheduling, organization, participant qualification and related matters shall be brought to the attention of the Head Coach.
- From time to time, other duties may be assigned that further the development and organizational goals of the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of competitive swimming experience with preferably 2 years of coaching experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Solid competitive swim coaching experience with demonstrated technical expertise and the ability to connect with, teach and develop children of all ages and abilities.
- Prior Swim Coach experience preferred but not required.
Current USA Swimming Coach Membership (or within 60 days); To include: Foundations of Coaching 101 [new members only]; Athletic Protection Training course.
- Current YMCA Certification for Swim Coaches (or within 60 days): Safety Training for Swim Coaches; or YMCA / ARC Lifeguard Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to demonstrate, instruct, observe, and critique team members in proper race starting and stroke techniques.
- Required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods during practices, dual meets, invitational meets and other situations as needed.
- Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
- Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
- Ability to communicate across distances in a noisy environment.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time in warm, humid pool environments.
