Job Description

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is seeking a Competitive Swim Coach to launch a new chapter of the Association’s Stingrays swim club at the Spurlino Family YMCA. Featuring a 30,000-square-foot outdoor aquatics center, Spurlino draws participants from some of Florida’s fastest-growing communities. The head coach will benefit from the support and expertise of the Association’s established competitive swim program while building a new team at a flagship YMCA in the heart of Southern Hillsborough County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Head Swim Coach with the development and implementation of workouts, trainings and season plans.
  • Lead supervised structured practices and/or dry land trainings, ensure attendance is documented.
  • Evaluate swimmer ability/performance and plan strategies for their improvement.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations.
  • Attend specified competitions, training and/or special events as directed by the Head Swim Coach or Director of Competitive & Developmental Swimming. 
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for athletes in the program. 
  • Follow all safety recommendations and guidelines per Tampa YMCA policies and USA Swimming
  • Communicate program information effectively and in a timely manner to supervisors, participants and their families.
  • Establishes and maintains a team attitude, and encourages good sportsmanship for athletes and parents.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.

Education/ Experience Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • A Minimum 2+ years of experience coaching swimming or 2+ years in competitive swimming.
  • Knowledge of USA regulations and safety requirements.

 

Certifications/Trainings Required:

  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in BLS CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
  • USA Swimming Coaching Certification required.
