The Rancho Colorados Wahoos, located in Lafayette, CA, are seeking an enthusiastic
and dedicated Lead Assistant Coach for the 2026 swim season. You’ll report directly
to our Head Coach, Adrian Lohse, who is entering his sixth season with the Rancho
Colorados Wahoos. Adrian brings over 30 years of swim experience, ranging from
learn-to-swim programs to National Championships. Under his expert guidance, you'll
play a key role in helping our swimmers reach their full potential.
About Rancho Colorados
The Wahoos are a recreational and competitive team that emphasizes skill
development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our swimmers range from age 4 to 18,
and our community of families is passionate about supporting a fun, rewarding swim
experience.
Main Areas of Responsibility & Job Requirements:
1. Practice Leadership
- Assisting in the development and implementation of practice plans.
- Leading specific drills or sets during practice sessions.
- Ensuring that swimmers follow proper technique and form.
- Lead age group practices daily.
- Plan & Run dry land practice sessions.
2. Swimmer & Junior Coach Development:
- Providing feedback and guidance to swimmers on their strokes, turns, and starts.
- Monitoring swimmer progress and identifying areas for improvement.
- Supporting swimmers in setting and achieving personal goals.
- Deepen swim technique knowledge of the junior coaching staff.
- Encourage junior coaching staff in and out of the water.
3. Meet Preparation and Management:
- Assisting with the organization and logistics of swim meets, including lineups and event entries.
- Offering on-deck support during meets, giving race strategies, and providing post-race feedback.
- Encouraging team spirit and sportsmanship among swimmers.
4. Communication and Team Building:
- Collaborating closely with the head coach and junior coaching staff.
- Communicating effectively with swimmers, parents, and junior coaches.
- Helping to foster a positive and supportive team culture
- Participate in team building activities and socials
- Assist the head coach with overall team season planning.
5. Safety and Supervision:
- Ensuring a safe environment for all swimmers during practices and meets.
- Being vigilant and prepared to respond to any emergencies or injuries.
- Enforcing pool rules and maintaining discipline.
- Helping with equipment management and ensuring that all necessary gear
- is available and in good condition.
- Supporting any additional tasks as directed by the head coach.
Successful Candidate Qualities:
- Commitment: Available for the majority of the season and on a regular, weekly
- basis. Fall, Spring & Summer
- Engagement: Maintain a positive and inspiring presence while coaching.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Head Coach to apply consistent language
- and techniques with young swimmers.
- Passion: Enjoy and excel at engaging with young swimmers.
- Composure: Demonstrate patience and calmness in high-energy environments.
- Qualifications: SafeSport and CPR certified. Ideally hold USA Swimming coach
- certifications.
- Experience: Experience from either the club or collegiate level.
- Skills: Possess strong communication, organizational, and administrative
- abilities.
- Dedication: Show a genuine passion for developing swimmers of all ages.
Compensation:
Rancho Colorados offers competitive salary based compensation with opportunity for
additional commission based income via private lessons, as well as bonus
