The Pacifica Sea Lions Aquatic Club (PSL) seeks to fill the position of Age Group Swim Coach. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing exceptional coaching and mentorship to swimmers of varying skill levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. This is an hourly position that offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and dynamic team environment.
Compensation: $20 - $25 per hour based on experience
Job Type: Part time, non-exempt, ~15-20 hrs/week, including possible mornings/weekends, remote and in-person meetings
Coaching: Focus on the “whole athlete,” including mental and emotional wellness, dryland exercise, a focus on injury prevention through age-appropriate movement patterns, training and racing strategies, and a strong emphasis on technical proficiency in the water.
Assisting: With direct supervision by the Head Coach and aligning with fellow coaches in leading practices, developing training sessions, instructing swimmers’ technique. Carries out duties as assigned by the Head Coach in alignment with overall program goals.
Swimmer Development: Help identify strengths and areas for improvement in individual swimmers, providing tailored feedback and guidance to enhance performance.
Focus: Promoting and encouraging a positive, progressive, inclusive, supportive, and winning culture amongst athletes and their families.
Team and Roster Co-management: Support the Head Coach in managing day-to-day team operations, including swimmer attendance, team communication, and parental engagement.
Safety, Culture, & Wellbeing: Ensure all safety protocols and USA Swimming guidelines are followed during practices, meets, and events. Provides a safe environment for PSL members, families, volunteers, and guests at all PSL programs, practices, clinics, events, and meetings.
Administrative Support: Assist with team events, meet entries, and other administrative tasks as needed. (Familiarity with Meet Manager, and Fastswims, Team Unify (SportsEngine))
Communication: Build strong relationships with athletes, parents, staff, and Board members to ensure a positive and supportive team environment. Provide regular feedback to athletes and communicate progress to parents.
Certifications, Compliance, & Safe Sport: Maintains USA Swimming membership in good standing and follows all Pacific Swimming policies (background checks, athlete protection training, etc.). Supports and reinforces team-wide codes of conduct as directed by the Head Coach or Safe Sport Coordinator. Maintains USA Swimming Safe Sport Club recognition in concert with the Board.
Experience: At least 3 years of coaching experience in competitive swimming, preferably within a USA Swimming-affiliated competitive swim team.
Certifications: Current USA Swimming Coach Certification, Level 2 ASCA Certification, CPR/First Aid, and background screening required. (If not certified, the candidate must obtain certifications within the first 3 months of employment.) Safety training for swim coaches (both online and in-water)
Knowledge: Strong understanding of swimming techniques, stroke mechanics, and competitive swimming rules.
Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with swimmers of various ages and abilities. Proficiency in responding to email, google suite and willingness to learn team management software.
Personal Qualities: Enthusiastic, motivating, and a team player who is dedicated to athlete development and growth. Has a willingness to be flexible, multitask when necessary, receives feedback graciously, and demonstrates initiative and a growth mindset.
Compensation ranging from $20-$25 per hour based on experience.
Travel meet/event expenses covered such as mileage subject to approval by the Board.
Stipend for cell phone use.

Work Schedule: The schedule varies based on season and business needs. The Coach may be required to split shift hours, including coverage of morning and afternoon practices, remote and flexible hours Monday through Friday, plus weekends during swim meets.
