Type: SWISD employee (hourly, non-exempt)
Hours: ~15-25 hrs/week
Weekday afternoons/evenings, Saturday mornings, + 1-2 meets/month
Reports to: Aquatics Coordinator/Head Swim Coach
Role Summary
Own a training group as the lead on deck (design plans, run practices, track progress) while assisting other groups as needed. Model a positive, SafeSport-aligned culture and communicate clearly with families.
Core Responsibilities
Plan & coach: seasonal/weekly/daily practices for the assigned group(s) (water & age-appropriate dryland as necessary)
Technical development: progressions for all strokes. starts/turns, race strategy; video feedback when appropriate
Group leadership: maintain standards for attendance, effort, and sportsmanship; manage lane assignments; uphold discipline with consistency
Meet coaching: prepare entries with the staff, write race plans, on-deck coaching, splits, and follow-up notes
Evaluation: maintain attendance and test sets, track best times/time standards, and provide periodic progress updates
Communication: timely parent communication (48 business hours norm), monthly group update, and collaboration with staff
Safety & compliance: maintain USA Swimming coach credentials, SafeSport, CPR/First Aid; follow SWISD facility policies
Program support: clinics, team events, and occasional coverage for other groups
Qualifications
USA Swimming coach in good standing (or obtained within 30 days); current SafeSport, CPR/First Aid, and concussions as applicable
1-3+ years coaching age-group/senior-level athletes or equivalent competitive background
Evidence of athlete development (mechanics to racing skills) and strong deck presence
Clear written/verbal communication and parent-education mindset; basic admin (Meet Manager/Team Manager/TeamUnify or CommitSwimming preferred)
Compensation
Hourly contractor stipend commensurate with experience; starting at $22.00/hr
Professional development (clinics, education, etc.) support available

Attendance and skill progression for the group; best time/time standard improvements
Parent feedback and communication responsiveness
Consistent SafeSport culture and practice quality
