About the Mueller Swim Team:
The Mueller Swim Team is a brand-new summer swim program in the Mueller neighborhood of Austin, TX. In our inaugural season, we are looking for a passionate and energetic founding coach to help establish a fun, inclusive, and skill-building swim team for neighborhood children. Our goal is to create an environment where every swimmer, regardless of background or swim skill, feels known and valued by the team. 

Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced swim coach to lead our team through its first season. The Head Coach will be responsible for planning and leading practices, motivating and managing swimmers of various ages and skill levels, and overseeing Saturday morning swim meets. The ideal candidate loves working with children and is a strong leader with excellent organization and communication skills. Most importantly, we are looking for candidates who are eager to connect with every child in order to build a strong sense of belonging in all participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a connection with each swimmer to ensure all participants feel a strong sense of belonging on the team.

  • Develop and implement structured swim practices for athletes of all skill levels, ages 5-18.

  • Foster a supportive and motivating environment that encourages swimmers to improve technique, endurance, and confidence in the water.

  • Lead practices on Mondays and Wednesdays (4/27-6/17 excluding the Monday after Memorial Day) from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM.

  • Organize and run swim meets on Saturday mornings (six total; 5/9-6/20 excluding Memorial Day Weekend), ensuring smooth meet operations.

  • Provide constructive feedback and individualized attention to swimmers.

  • Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers.

  • Communicate with parents and team organizers about practice schedules, meet details, and swimmer progress.

  • Ensure safety protocols and pool rules are followed at all times.

  • Ensure that all Mueller pool facilities are used in a respectful, conscientious way, and that the pools are reopened to residents in excellent condition.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with children of all skill levels and ages in a patient, positive, and encouraging manner.

  • Prior coaching experience with youth swimmers preferred.

  • Background in competitive swimming (as a coach or athlete).

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to create and implement structured practice plans.

  • CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications preferred.
